Fatal AA-5B accident east of Medicine Hat

An AA-5B en route from Medicine Hat to Moose Jaw on Saturday, crashed at Irvine, just east of Medicine Hat. All three persons on board were killed.

No information on the possible cause.

We have been having a lot of forest fire smoke in Southern Alberta recently and I wondered if that might be an issue. However, the METARs don’t look too bad - visibilities of 3 to 6 miles in smoke were reported on Saturday.

PS I misread the takeoff time, I thought it was in the morning. It was 22:15, about 50 minutes after sunset.
