Type rating currency
Hi guys,
Could anyone know help to find the regs with regards to the requirements to keep a type rating current on a Canadian ATP while flying abroad for a foreign carrier ?
I heard that as long as 50hrs are flown on type within 12 months, the type rating remains current ( my IFR is current and renewed)
Any hint or official document supporting that ?
Many thanks !

ATPL Validation
I just finished talking to TC in YVR prior to New Years on this same issue. I've been working overseas since 1996. As long as you maintain a valid foreign document, you will not need to write any exams. However we are still required to sit an instrument ride in Canada to validate the Canadian document.
What I've done in the past was to come back to Canada, rent a simulator for 4 hours and sit the ride. The IFR will be good for 2 years.
Hope that helps. Furthermore, I couldn't find the regulatory reference either, so I went directly to them. They were helpful.

INRAT
Did you actually NOT have to write the INRAT after being away for years?
My read is that you can't escape doing the INRAT if you are out of Canada for over two years.
It's a fun exam to study for and well worth the benefit if you have been out of Canada for a while.

IFR Renewals
This is a two sided issue:
1. In order to keep a Canadian ATPL alive and usable, the document holder must sit an IR Ride by an TC examiner, every two years.
2. If you do not sit the IR AND you do nothing else, the exams go 'stale' and you have to sit the INRAT again.
The answer to not having to sit INRAT is to keep a valid foreign ATPL with the corresponding documentation (License skill test/license proficiency check) valid.
If the Canadian document holder does not wish to sit an IFR in Canada and maintain a valid ATP exam set, all he/she needs to do is maintain a valid foreign ATPL and present TC with the documentation prior to presenting themselves for a Canadian re-validation.

I just renewed my ATP last summer at ZBB. INRAT resit not required if the IR lapse is within two years. So if you are not flying on your Canadian license, you can let the IR lapse for a period of up to two years and not have to rewrite the INRAT.

Guys,
Back to the original subject, my Instrument Rating IS current and has been renewed a few months ago by a Canadian examiner in Quebec.
My question concerned the validity of a type rating endorsed on my Canadian license.
I did not have a sim recurrent on type in 12 months
Is a recurrent sim by an oversea operator automatically renew the validity on my Canadian ATP aswell ? (ie, does transport recognise an EASA LPC/OPC for instance ?)
Thanks for any regs or insight !
Thanks a lot ;-)

Type ratings stay on your licence forever (i.e. they don't expire). A PPC is a different matter but you can only get a PPC when you are working for an approved commercial air operator.

RTFQ problem..
Your type rating stays but you need a PC on type when you come back. My 777 abroad does not keep my 777 valid in Canada. I need a Canadian ride to validate my 777. That said, I can do an IR ride in the 777 without doing a PC.
