Looking at the range/payload figures for the Avanti {Zacadeli was boss of the Mounties during this purchase by the way!} it seems given the legs they fly one would be at max weight on almost every Western flight out of CYOW unless one made a few fuel stops on the way, a strange choice of aircraft to say the least.

I think the Avantis were purchased By the then director of the RCMP who was of Italian descent, the aircraft is to say the least hardly a suitible choice for Canada with limited range/payload and marginal unprepared strip abilities {"hey, lets put the props behind the gear so they catch all the rocks!"}I belive "Aventair", the company set up to run a fleet of them have in fact gone belly up, they were runing a fleet of them as fractionals, Im told they cant give them away these days.
