If you have an FAA Certificate you can covert straight across with a medical and a short conversion exam.
If not you will likely have to pass the ATPL exams the SARON, SAMRA and possibly the INRAT for the instrument rating. Complete a medical and then either a check ride in the simulator or a small light twin if that is an option. You would also have to meet the experience requirements as per Transport Canada licensing. These have recently been changed so would require some investigation.
Nobody cares about your type rating cost.

This link will take you to the Transport Canada information page that lists licensing requirements for foreign applicants. Scroll down the page a bit to find the ATPL requirements.

Once you get familiar there are several providers of weekend courses for the INRAT/ATPL exams. One is Aerocourse, their information can be found on the net I don't have a link. They have a good reputation if you are prepared they give a good final preparation to write the exams.
