There is no A330 simulator in YYZ. Air Canada's check pilots can't conduct traditional check rides for the A330. They have an AQP program and the check pilot certification is unique to that program only.

J.O. is 100% correct.

In Canada, you can't renew a PPC if you're not employed by a Canadian Company. Why? Because the training program for each company must be approved by TC. The PPC is issued based on the training program being completed by a pilot.

I went through the same nonsense last winter while on layoff from my Canadian company but employed in southwest Asia for a A330 operator... This situation ended my contract early...

The FAA licence is the way to go. It's easy to convert from a your Canadian ATPL. The A330 TR will be transfered automatically. Renewing your qualifications will be much easier thereafter!

Good luck!

You can renew your Canadian IFR using an A330 simulator, which in effect would serve to renew your aircraft currency. That is different than renewing a PPC, which is only tied to an air operator's certificate. The challenge is in finding an examiner that can conduct it for you and available simulator time.
