Can a USA pilot rent in Canada

Anyone know if a pilot with USA private license can rent a 172 in Canada? Thanx in advance.

No, you need a Canadian licence to fly a Canadian registered aircraft.

I believe there is a procedure to get a Canadian licence based on your American licence.

Yes you can by obtaining a Foreign Licence Validation Certificate (FLVC) from Transport Canada. Check CARS 421.07 (standards) and 401.07 (regulations).
I think the cost is $45 and TC will issue a FLVC based on your valid FAA and FAA Medical. Email TC, or phone them and ask for details.
