Aircraft at YVR, military

Hey all,

Are the hornets sitting in temp hangers at YVR there for "security" during the olympics or are they just on a regular deployment.

If they are, what security issue is envisaged that a supersonic fighter would be able to solve?

They are there for 2010 security. As for there role it is probably interception and also surveillance as part of a larger force. Ready for any possibilities. Normally the closest F18 are in Cold Lake, AB.

OK. thanks. Still seems odd to me.

Interception is probably what the hornet was designed for.

But security?

Couldn't have some C182 fumble into YVR without proper security clearance.
