Engine rough during magneto check

Hey folks just wondering what's the proper procedure to resolve engine rough issue during single magneto check on a Cesna 152?

I believe it is to lean mixture until it loses power, get RPM to 2000 (keep it at 2000 until when?) and then go back to around 1700 rpm? I feel like there's more to it.....

No. That is pretty much the right idea. Lean the engine out, get it hot in there and hopefully burn out any carbon deposits that might be fouling the plugs.

Just be sure that you are not so lean that you cause other problems. 50 rpm on the lean side should be enough.

Of course I am going by memory here, but it is all in the POH (or AOM if you prefer).
