Conversion FAA ATPL into Canadian ATPL

Is there anybody have information (Reference Guide) concerning the carrying out of the FAAAA exam, in order to convert an FAA ATPL into a Canadian ATPL.

Convert FAA ATP to Canadian ATPL

There is a joint agreement between the US and Canada which allows either a US FAA certificate holder or a Canadian certificate holder to convert their licenses .

The process from FAA to Canadian is fairly easy.

1. Get your Canadian Medical which will give you a number
2. Place that number from medical on your application
3. The Transport Canada will verify your license with the FAA
4. Take your 25 to 40 question written test
5. Visit a Transport Canada official and they will review your log books and flight times
6. pay a fee for each license and you will be issued a ICAO Canadian License.

I think the Canadian license is more valuble than the FAA.

And the Canadian ATPL is nothing more than an advanced PPL.

The conversion from FAA to Canadian ATPL is only possible if you received the FAA license by doing all of the tests and if it was not issued based on another country's ATPL .

If you got your FAA ATPL based on a European license then you can't convert that license to a Canadian one.

I have an FAA CPL A & H which are not based on another countries license. My UK license was based on my FAA.

Just wanted to know if there is any where I can convert it in the UK rather than fly to Canada for an exam that is only 20 questions and an hour long.

The the 25 question test the only test the needs to be taken to convert FAA to ATPL? A friend said you might need to take the ATPL exams also.

I know Im bringing a dead post back, but Im curious, if you have an FAA ATPL, for the conversion to TC ATPL do you need to meet all of the time requirements? i.e 250 hrs PIC.

You don't think the Canadian ATPL is able to get one a job in Middle East or Asia?
Isn't it an ICAO ATPL that should be accepted by all ICAO signatories?
This is not a flame. I'm deciding whether to do the ATPL in US or Canada so would like to understand your point of view more.

Foreign CPL - FAA ATP - Canadian ATP

I will get a letter of verification for my ICAO Commercial Pilots license from Australia to the FAA. Once that is done, I can sit the FAA ATP medical, written exam and flight test easily.

Later I would hope to convert the FAA ATP to a Canadian one (Canada and the USA have a conversion agreement). However, on the Transport Canada website, it states:

*"(d) FAA pilot certificates issued on the basis of a foreign licence are not eligible for conversion to a TCCA pilot licence under these implementation procedures. TCCA pilot licences issued on the basis of a foreign licence are not eligible for conversion to an FAA pilot certificate under these Implementation Procedure"

What does "on the basis of a foreign licence" mean? Does it mean they would not recognize my license since the CPL has originated from a foreign country, or that this is only for foreign ATP - FAA ATP direct conversions????


Any help would really be appreciated!

as far as I was told, the FAA and TC licences stand on their on, after being validated form a foreign ICAO licence (I have confirmation of this). So it shouldnīt affect your further validations...(I have not confirmation of this, but it seems logical)

courses for conversion from FAA to TC

Has any of you guys done the online courses on the pilottraining website prior to sitting the TC exams? I am talking at CPL/IR level, they offer a package for 350usd, is that strongly advisable to do or totally excessive before sitting both the CPL and IR law exams?
Would highly appreciate an opinion from someone with experience, thanks!

Iīm taking that pack, and itīs so helpful, thereīre many interesting classroom-videos,slides and access to manuals.

IFR law, operations, minima, procedures...are kind fo different form JAA, at least..donīt know from FAA, but it seems itīs closer, problably uīd need a FAA converting studentīs opinion.

Anyone from JAA, itīs fairly advisable (besides the price..., but still cheaper than any crapy-thief ATPL-JAA subjets course).

Thanks Aphelio for your feedback, I guess I would really want to hear from a holder of a FAA license too, in the meantime I keep browsing through the forums and thread for all the available information. If anyone could list here all the online ground school providers for TC certification it would be great. Thanks
