Hi folks,
One question, if I may. I plan to vacation in Canada later in the year and plan to rent a light aircraft in the Calgary area for a few days trip. Any suggestions where I could best contact for a C182 / Piper Archer / Arrow? Any info gratefully recieved.

Try this operator. They are located at the Calgary International Airport, east side:

Hope it helps.
Have a great holiday and be careful in the mountains.

777,
Many thanks for the info. and the advice. I'm not sure how much mountain flying will actually be involved. The flying is basically to shorten the trip time up to the peace River area. I'll spend a few days visiting family up there. Thanks again for the contact.

Yup, I'm really looking forward to it. I see what you mean by be careful in the mountains. I hadn't really intended heading east toward Banff and Jasper and thus assumed (wrongly) that my involvement with mountain flying would be minimal. A closer look at the map (AAA / CAA.. .. the VNCs are on order) shows some high ground around Slave Lake which is more or less my target area. Is Alberta your home turf?

The terrain height in the Slave Lake area isn't a problem, its a gradual increase and its pretty flat actually. In the summer, the area can spon some CBs and at least TCU and ACC. The higher terrain won't normally be a problem unless you get into marginal weather and are groping around. At that point I would be turning around anyways. Calgary area is flat as a pancake, however; go 60 NM west and you immediately hit the mountiains. Most flying schools and FBOs require a "mountain check", if you want to go into the Rockies.
I'm and expat Canadian flying the 777 in Saudi Arabia.

777,
Thanks for the geography lesson and the back up info. Hopefully I'll have the necessary VNCs by next week so I can fill in some of the detail. Bumped into another Canadian ex-pat (JAL 747 F/O) in London this week who also greatly added to my store of knowledge He mentioned the possibility that the Slave Lake area might require some extra survival considerations. Any ideas?
Next time you do a London trip. If the guy with Maastricht has an Irish accent, Say hello
