Question CAPs

Is it just me or?

I find the CAPs really user unfriendly! The info is not layed out in an efficient way and tends to be confusing at times?

Just my Opinion, but any one out there thinks the same?

Regards

In this life, you have to think ahead to survive, not just on the flightdeck.

Cool

Only thing I like about CAP's is that they are a lot cheaper than Jepps, especially if you operate in one small area. I seen CAP's showing one type of symboligy in their legend, but using a completely different one in their plates (I gave them a call and that has since been corrected). Then again, I'm often annoyed by Jepp's constant fine tuning and fluffing up of their U.S. coverage features to the complete neglect of the rest of the world (ie, complete aerodromes missing, faulty data, etc.)

Then again, Jepp is the world standard. If you want to see some confusing plates-- check out the procedures published in some third world's countries' AIP's!!!

Thumbs down

I've used Jepps, Air Canada's, and CAP's.I find that Jepps are 'cluttered' at times-especially the enroute. My latest headache is finding specific charts for YVR in the CAP(too many, and I can't find a sequence for the charts) Air Canada listed the STARS,ILS's ,NDB's ,AIRPORT,TAXIWAYS,SIDS.
But to find the ILs for 08,one must churn through the CAP.Jepp,s order of putting the AIRPORT before the Approaches is puzzleing

Cool

I guess you guys never had to ammend the old CAP format, ya remember the big mother binders? The current CAP format follows the Military GPH format, definately an improvement, especially for Regional users. I never saw much sense in paying for the Vancouver ammendments, just to get the new plates for Atikokan.

As for JEPPS, if you look at the newest Jepps format, they are layed out to be the most "IDIOT PROOF" format I have ever seen. I mean what more could you ask for than to have a Pictograph Missed Approach. Even a monkey could follow it.

Cheers, OffshoreIgor

Wink

I`ve flown with both CAP`S ( old & new ) and with JEPP`S. The JEPP`S have way too much unnecessary information cluttering the approach charts, but I find that otherwise they work fine.....now if they could only produce a 100nm safe altitude......

I believe it's really what you're use to or what you learned with. I've used both the CAP's and Jepp and find the Jepp's, at first look, to be intimidating with all the info. I find that the CAP's keep it straight forward where as the Jepp's cluter the page so bad that the escential info is hard to find. I guess if you had all day to look at the plate and study it, it would have more than enough info, but when you're cleared for an approach that you weren't expecting, it can be a bit nerve racking trying to find some fix in all the rest of the shat!!

Just my two cents though.
