Greetings ! I had coffee (what's the chances ) with a buddy today he mentioned that he had heard that C3 was picking up 100 pilots and WJ 65 . If it's true, hope it's good for ALL. The Canadian Pilot scene is just wild now. Hope the money follows before all the talent leave for greener $$$ pastures . H.H.W

Hello there,
your info with Westjet is correct. They are planning a huge expansion within the next couple of years. (70 new 737) C3000 was given permission by our government, (it sound almost like a socialist republic at times) to offer scheduled service to England and Germany. A direct result of the merger between AC and Canadien.
As to the rest, I couldn't tell you. Here in the west Citylink, (Jetstream) closed there doors, tossing out 30 guys. CMA out of Smithers is supposingly closing there Vancouver Office. Laying off another 30-35 B-1900 drivers.

CMA will be keeping the YVR base open after all, but will only be basing 9 crews there. But they are downsizing. The market as I see it is great if you have 5000 hours. Low timers (like me) are still having problems finding work, but hopefully the "majors" will create a void in the smaller carriers when they start hiring lots. I am still not too sure about the whole scene yet!

I just wonder what the requierments are going to be for those lucky 17. I know that Westjet wanted to lower there minimums down from the current 5000h. But in a meeting the pilots voted against that.
What are the other companies are doing? Canadien Regional and Air Ontario for example?

I am not on the hiring committee and am not actively campaigning for someone so I am unaware of exact dates. However I know that the new pilots are planned to be in place by June 1 and training is 6-8 weeks before being released online. Good Luck to all interested!
