I'm wondering if anyone out there has first hand knowledge of the situation at C3? What are the working conditions like, moral, pay, days off etc...I'm living overseas right now and would love to move back but the longer term prospects worry me as well as the financial.
Cheers

Moving back to Canada all depends on what you already have and what you expect when you get there (Canada).
I left in 1995 and have been through interviews with C3, AC, & CP. Had offers from each but they just can't deliver the goods. AC starts you at a measly $33,500 to increase to the big time $ of around 75k in 2 years. And you most likely will have to live in TO, ugh. C3 starts higher - around 43, if I remember correctly - but working conditions are worse than AC and no big $$ at the end. Lots of hard work. Sorry but I'm not into that. I like my cushy 55 hrs, 6 flying days per month routine.
CP you can just write off - $27,500 to start and sit sideways in a DC-10. No thank you, I didn't come 14 years through my career so I could go back to making less than I did as a regional pilot.
Nuff said. Most of my friends who left Canada are better off than if they had stayed.

I just spoke with their Flight OPs very recently...They just recieved Transport Approval to blanket cover all the Buses with a single rating..However If you do have a rating on a Bus..you are guaranteed an interview...Starting 4 is correct with salaries and beware of the 21 day pairings. I have heard mixed reviews about C3..but whatever is said I still know a ton of guys who would give their left testicle to work their. I myself, am starting to give up on the aviation gig in Canada....Grand Daddy never told me it was going to be like this!..In the mean while, if there is anyone who can rescue me out of the turbo prop market and give me a lead where they like hard working Canadians who aren't so good looking with 5000 plus hours..let me know! Cheers!

I wish I could work 6 days per month. Where do I apply for the company you work for? Life is worth living and there are a lot of people that seem to think only of their career and the extra cash. However, you're right in that getting ahead in Canada is tough. I hate the thought struggling but living overseas can get to you after awhile. Clean air, polite people, Starbucks.etc..I miss it.

I am finishing my commercial/multi/IFR this year, and as much as I love Canada, I can't see myself having a long career here with the way the industry is evolving. Canada is a great place to get a start, but once you are ready for the big times, the pickings are slim. I'd like to say I don't fly for the money, and I do love to fly, but when you are married and have kids to feed, you don't have much of a choice. But I really, really don't want to go to the USA. No offence anyone, but I am a true Canadian!
Starting 4, who do you work for! 6 days a month? Not bad!

Its funny how now you look at flying over 75 hours a month as hard work. Geesh, I remember the days that getting up at 4 30 in the 'morn and pumpin floats used to give me the ultimate boner. Flying a hundred hours a month was nothing and a 12 hour Saturday was the norm! I currently work a 75 hour sched per month and its weird that despite we fly 6 to 7 legs a day, it is never the flying I get tired of. Its the the over nights, restaurants and talking with your kids over the phone that truly suck! I truly believe that one day , sitting at FL 390, bored out of my gotch and twiddling my thumbs, I'll look out the window in between Great Bear and Hudson Bay and think "Man, thats when life was good...the days you would log more time on the lawn mower, than the Beaver!" Just a thought!....

"What are the working conditions like, moral, pay, days off etc..."
Gasman, C3 operates Airbus 320+330 and Boeing 757. The working conditions are different on each aircraft as you can imagine with the 330 pilots away from home the most. You are rostered for 10 days off per month and most crew average two to three extra "grey" days off per month. The lifestyle is best on the 320 in YYZ. Overall it is a great company to work for and the pilots have the backing of ALPA. The pay starts at $40,000 then $48,000 after 1 year of probation. Hope this is of some use.
p.s. Starbucks is now in YYZ!!!

Hey, Gasman - don't know which "overseas" you are at, but at MY "overseas" I can SAVE $100,000 Canadian a year.
If you just run that through the Casio a few times, I think you'll see that in a few years I'll be back in Calgary makin' about 70 grand a year with 31 rostered days off a month...
You might want to stick it out for a bit longer...
