Air Georgian Crash
Paul Mulrooney, president of Air Georgian, is quoted as saying in the Toronto Star, "this is the first fatal crash for Georgian since its inception in 1986"
I suppose that the freight pilot that died in Barrie in the Caravan 5 or 6 years ago doesn't count. Not very respectful of someone who died in the service of one's company.
This is also the third hull loss accident at Georgian involving Caravans. The second one crashed on the runway at North Bay, and was described as a "Hard Landing" by Georgian officials. Fortunately nobody was killed, although the copilot suffered substantial injuries and probably will never fly again. (anyone know what happened to Daya?)
Presumably there will be further muddying of the corporate family tree to ensure that Georgian's connection with Air alliance is percieved as distant. This is exactly why the operation was "split".
A very sad day for all of us. RIP

Plane was overloaded in Lake Erie crash
UPDATED AT 6:06 AM EDT Wednesday, Jun 2, 2004
Kingsville, Ont. -- The Transportation Safety Board has found that a plane that crashed into Lake Erie in January, killing 10 people, was more than 1,000 pounds overweight, or 15 per cent over the plane's maximum. The Cessna 208-B Caravan crashed en route to Windsor, Ont., just after taking off from Pelee Island. The investigator said weight is just one factor the board is studying. CP
