EZY cabin baggage query
 

I hope some EZY cabin crew may be able to help.

I am flying LGW to MXP in July for a motor biking holiday. I want to take my helmet but it doesn't fit in my carry on bag and I don't want it in the hold with the risk of non-visible damage. Will I be able to take it on board along with a cabin sized case or is the 1 piece rule ultra-strict.

One item means - guess what - one item - as you might expect. It won't come to any harm in the hold if you pack it properly.

Why not just wear it as you board and then y can take it off!

I wore a dive weight belt. (with 10kgs of shot.)

No problem till I was told to remove shoes and belt, security were rather confused.....

I've considered wearing it but pretty sure that wont go down too well. Would pack it in the hold but because of its size, inflexibility and roundness - it won't even fit in my hold suitcase. Hmmmm may have to rent one over there.

I travel with a canvas shopping bag as my handbaggage ... it contains all my bits and bobs but still counts as 1 bag, and fits easily in all cages.

Might your helmet fit in one of these? OK so it isn't exactly 'chic' but it is useful.

I flew today on easyJet and there was a cabin announcement that they were restricting the size of bag they would guarantee to allow on board from (I think) July. The new "guaranteed" size is smaller than the CAA regulations, so I would check carefully before you fly. The message is clear, if you have a bag which is within CAA regs but the flight is busy, there is no guarantee you can take it on board. Like several passengers today, you will have your bag taken to the hold.

I'm going to moan now. They claimed a computer problem had caused duplicate allocation of seats which was delaying flights. Despite the aircraft not being on the ground, we were herded into hot, airless corridors to stand waiting for it to arrive. I know my company is booking me cattle class transport to save money, but why do EJ have to treat us like cattle?

When we finally boarded, some of the cabin crew had clearly lost it and their rudeness to passengers was such that other passengers felt obliged to defend them. I have never before seen a Captain feel the need to keep a member of cabin crew on the flight deck in flight for 45 minutes to cool off.

EasyJet have indeed implemented a new handbaggage policy. This is if your bag conforms to the new sizes they will guarantee it will be onboard with you, as it can be placed under the seat or in one of the lockers.
If your bag is bigger than the new regs but still fits in the standard size EasyJet offer it will still be allowed on, but may be offloaded if the overhead lockers become full.
This is stated in terms and conditions of your booking that your bag may be offloaded into the aircrafts hold if it cannot fit into the cabin.
They offer 1 cabin bag only rule, which isn't enforced as well as it should be, as I have on numerous occasions seen people with a carry on bag, handbag and then duty free! So 1 bag means all your luggage needs to fit into the one bag.

Regarding the other comment, a captain would never hold a member of crew in the flight deck for 45 minutes during the flight to "Cool off" crew are trained to deal with situations and defuse these. Although I know crew can also get wound up as they are human too I have myself witnessed from my career as crew some disgusting behaviour from pax that gets turned around and blamed on the crew. If a crew member became that irate the captain may offload the crew member and get a SBY crew to cover their duty, but would not let them sit in the FD for any amount of time like that. As the crew would need to effectivley operate as reduced crew and that would involve the CPT and PU filling in a lot of paper work!

Only 1 carry on bag allowed. Duty free and purchases within the airport are not included in this. All handbags must be placed into carry on only.

Could you not just book it on as sport equipment. In a big bag padded with clothes or even a placy dive gear box.

Means as well that you get an extra bags worth of kit. Which isn`t counted against your weight limit.

Last time I flew with sports equip on easy (March) it got an extra 12kg on the allowance, so it does count (though i wouls guess that a m/cycle helmet wouldn't weigh all that.

Helmets are not accepted in hand luggage at some French airports (god knows why).

I didn't think it appropriate to start a new thread so I thought I'd tag on the end of this one.

I'm getting married abroad next week and a lot of the guests are flying on Easy. I've had a lot of questions about whether or not suit carriers can be accepted in addition to the standard 1 piece of luggage. No specific info on the website. Is there a policy that I haven't found?

I was on one 3 days ago out of Gatwick and the narky cow on the gate was chucking people out left and center making them put hand bags etc into the carry on bag. And there were a few standing with a carrier and wheelie bag searching for a credit card.

And the reason why she was a narky cow was because she was just screaming "1 piece of hand baggage get over there" to nearly every woman that came near her.

Tip for the blokes just wrap your ladys handbag in your jacket and drap it over your arm so you don't have to be bothered with the faff. Or stick it in an airport shopping bag.

You are kidding, aren't you? One piece = one piece. So I'd ask the photographer for plenty of "soft focus" shots to "iron-out" the creases. But at least you can rest assured that the flights were very, very cheap.

PM: No I wasn't kidding, given a) Easyjet claim they want to target frequent (suit wearing?) business travelers, and b) I don't know whether or not a320s have a hanging closet in the cabin for this purpose. If any Easyjet CC can answer my question that would be fab. If its a gate issue rather than a concrete company policy, I will advise guests to pack the suit until they're onboard.
As for soft focus- I'm gonna need it anyway after a week of earlies!!

No, easy aircraft don't have a hanging closest.

You do see people bringing them on board though, but I imagine this will depend on on the ground staff dealing with the flight as official it wouldn't be allowed in accordance with the policy.
If you pack the suit well enough, putting socks / pants in the bits you need to folder and then hang it in a steamy bathroom when you arrive at destination it usually still looks good at the other end!

Let me try and clarify a bit.

I am EZY CC, and the rules EasyJet and ground staff are SUPPOSED to be enforce are 1 piece of hand baggage only. So and ladies with handbags etc will have to place these into their carry on bag. My understanding was that duty free was supposed to be placed into a bag, but most airports do not enforce this.

So to answer the above questions
1) The motorcycle helmet will need to either go into your cabin bag or be check into a bag to go into the hold. If you pack it well it SHOULDN'T be damaged. Obviously this it at a risk of your own, and because I don't want to be held accountable should it get damaged during transit.
2) Unfortunately suit carriers are included in the 1 piece of baggage, so you will have to come on with just the suit carrier and no other bag, or you may run the risk of them removing the other bag and charging you £50 i believe to place into the hold.

Also to clarify the new baggage rule, there are 2 sizes as of 2nd July, the smaller of the 2 is guaranteed by EZY to remain in the cabin with you. Either under the seat or in the locker. Then the larger bag may be offloaded should the lockers become full.

It's quite worrying when even current easy CC don't know the policy. One duty free bag is allowed in addition to the 1 item allowance. Its in your manual ;)
