Jetstar will operate the service on behalf of QantasLink.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that yet to be announced? Last rumour I heard it was looking pretty good for NJS...?

ditzyboy 4th December 2004 08:15

Jupiter2 -
It will be a QantasLink onboard product - including a reconfiguration to the old QFLink 115Y with extra cart units down the back etc etc. ??

Cabin Crew operating a QantasLink 717 flight will wear the QantasLink uniform, surely. Unless of course the CEO and Head of Customer Service are both wrong? Why would Cabin Crew not wear the QFLink uniform when offering that product? I am sure the customers would have a thing or two to say. And from all accounts QFLink has some fairly important contracts where having upset customers would be the last thing they need. From what I hear most flying ex PER and DRW will be dedicated to the QFLink operation anyway.

SkySista -
JQ are saying they have it nailed. NJS are saying they have it nailed. It is definately a close race.

Doesn't the parent company of NJS (is it FRA Aviation?) have a preference toward contract charters and freight (ie. they don't like Airline Ops)? I remember reading that when they bought NJS.

NJS has certainly had a great relationship with QF and they have proven themselves to be an excellent operator. Also if QF give them the 717 it is NJS that will have to pay for the endoresments for pilots and training. NJS have crew and maintainence facilities set up already. Although NJS will have to get the 717 on their AOC and train staff etc. and set up maintainence infrustructures for a a/c type EXTREMELY different to what they operate now. No easy feat by any stretch and a very costly one, I am sure.

On the flipside... JQ is wholly owned meaning the 717 operation will contribute $18M anually to the QF Group bottom line. Obviously JQ have the only knowledge of 717 operations in the region and have the type already on their AOC. It would be a much more seemless transition. Also JQ is keen to set up a base in PER regardless. Although would the QF Group prefer JQ to focus on LCC type flying and the A320s?

We shall all soon see. I have never picked what Qantas will decide with these sort of things. It will sure be interesting to see who they choose to operate the 717 and why.

I want to head up the DRW base! Please oh please let's get the 717 flying. I would happily give up Career Progression to do 717 QFLink flying ex-DRW. That would be heaven.

Everyone should stop guessing what's going to happen and wait for the answer.

Just remember if the contract goes to Jetstar NJS cabin crew will be out of work. Bet you all didn't think about that did you?!

Jetstar crew - you won't be out of work if the contract doesn't go to you so you won't be so hard done by!

Jupiter2 - don't go posting stupid comments like that. No one knows the answer yet. I'm sure respective NJS & Jetstar employees will be the first to know & no doubt one will post the answer here quick smart.

Just remember there are jobs on the line here. So I'd be hoping NJS got the contract so dedicated, professional and outstanding crew got to keep the jobs they love.

Hi...
Im going through the Jetstar selection process atm, about to have my second interview this week... Im currently working for another airline, where the pay is about $25000, and I generally work up to 180-200 hours a month duty (no dta), with the average duty being about 11-12 hours, longest at 13hrs rostered (about 16hrs in reality).
Yeah, its a lot of work, but i love it to death.

I know im getting ahead of myself here, but was wondering if anyone could perhaps tell me if its easy to live alone, in sydney on the jetstar wage? Is there much opportunity for those who want to work more, to in actual fact do so?

thanks

captainsecure -
You can get an OK studio in Potts Point / Kings Cross / Surry Hills / Darlinghurst for $210-230 per week. But given the number of young single professionals that live in these areas they can be hard to come by. Many JQ FAs live in around Cronulla where you can get a a one bedroom unit for that much.

If you wanna go out West you could get a one bedroom for $180 ish but you would kiss goodbye a social life... ;)

You can share in Surry Hills etc for $180 per week. Realistically I dunno how far out of the City you would need to go to get cheaper than that.

We don't really have a system where you can ask to work any more or less. We can work a max of two days off per month. It isn't wise to do this however as all it says to the Company is we are willing to have our days off from 10 a month to 9 next EBA. And we aren't, OK!?

You can nominate to get double time on Available Days (3-5 days per month) if you are happy for the hours not to count toward your block (140 max). It sounds like you would be happy to do that given you work such hours already! Our daily average hours is 6 hours 28 mins so Jetstar would be like a holiday four you, me thinks.

Hope it helps!

LET"S FLY JETSTAR!

So Stillontheground - will you or won't you?

Iguanahead 7th December 2004 04:54

Hi captain,

As usual Ditzyboy has come up with the goods, clever little cherub!

You might also like to take a look at www.realestate.com.au and click on Rental Properties and then do a general search for Sydney or search by suburb to give you an indication of what the market is like. Your pay if you get in will be more than you are earning now so look at it like an equalisation and the rent won't hurt that much... I hope.:\

Good luck with the application and the move in the future. :ok:

TSSOV 7th December 2004 06:33

move to sydney... move to sydney!!!;)

thecaptainissecure... you know you want to!!

Iguanahead 8th December 2004 02:14

Has anyone heard anything fron the seminars in Sydney a couple of weeks ago?

Has anyone had an interview from them yet?

thecaptainissecure 8th December 2004 02:31

Ditzy & Iguana...

thanks for the help...
Will have to wait and see - at least if i dont get it im still doing something I love! If I do get it, i could end up anywhere I suppose! :)

6hrs 28min...
My concern would not be the money, more what I would do to fill my time out side of work...? It would take a bit of adjusting... :O

Anyway. thanks for your help again!

:ok:

TSSOV - hehe

Without stating the bleeding obvious...I feel it only necessary to point out to those eager to fly in Oz that...

JETSTAR IS RECRUITING LIKE MAD! MAD I TELL YOU! BUSY BUSY BUSY!

Sorry. Had to say that so that at least we have people interested in covering the amount of flying coming our way over the next few months.

GET YOUR APPLICATIONS IN NOW! NO TIME TO WASTE!

SkySista 9th December 2004 07:45

Speaking of recruitment, anyone in West Oz know where one can obtain an RSA before freakin FEBRUARY?! I've called all these places and they say 'oh yes, we're doing a course soon, probably in the next month'. Then when I call back after about two weeks they say "Oh I'm sorry, you just missed it, the next one is in Feb."

Obviously cannot start applying "like MAD!!!" without one.... and do they all charge 120-150???

Okay, back to the original topic.....

D'you think it'd be worth my while applying for JQ even if the Perth base won't happen for 6-12 months yet?

oh and as always, best of luck to those waiting on replies!!!

bases

just wondering which bases jetstar are recruiting for?

OZcabincrew 9th December 2004 15:29

i did my RSA in Perth at a place called Aragon i think it was in East Perth? It was about $110 and was an all day thing, very boring but..................mind you this was over two years ago. Try them?

Oz

ps-is there definately going to be a Perth base? and if so aren't they just going to take over all the NJS/Qantaslink crew?

pps-is there definately going to be an Adelaide base?

mez78 9th December 2004 23:33

Another Jetstar question... from what i have read it seems flights depart both Tullamarine and Avalon. Does this mean you could be based at both or are you assigned to one or the other?
Also is there any overnights with Jetstar? It doesnt seem like there is alot written on this forum about it so any info would he great!

I have applied via the website about a month ago, fingers crossed I hear something soon!!!

Thanks! M xxxx

MoeZ77 10th December 2004 04:24

JQ INFO!!!

if you get based in melboure it will only be at tulla as avalon is not a crew base. with regards to overnights ..no there arent that many going around, apart from that jetstar are a great airline to work for:) all the best for those applying. Melb just had 2 ground schools and one that finished on the 24. The next batch will more than likley be for syd or seq

cheers Moez77

SkySista 10th December 2004 04:30

at a place called Aragon i think it was in East Perth
Yep, they are in E Perth.... tried them and AHA as well as Clubs WA.... AHA has one on 12th Jan in case anyone else is interested... everyone else's aren't till Feb.....

as for a JQ Perth base, I'm assuming even if they are using Qlink and NJS staff, not all would be moving over as some would still want to stay where they are? Possible movement to other jobs and everything, maybe there will be a few more jobs coming up...

A little birdy told me Qlink are going to be recruiting directly Jan? Anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Good luck guys n gals!!! :)

Perth Base

A Jetstar Perth base within a year?
It would happen IF they get the QantasLink contract off of National Jet Systems. Jetstar I've heard aren't keen on entering the Perth market for some time otherwise but would sooner with this contract.
In addition, I work with up to 100 cabin crew out of Perth and we are nearly 100% unionised. If we lost the QantasLink contract, we would all hope to at least attain an interview for the Jetstar Perth Base as we'll try so hard to keep our jobs in conjunction with the FAAA.
As you said skysista, if we were lucky enough to be 'absorbed' into Jetstar if we lost the contract, I'm sure all our cabin crew will love to cross over - career progression, full Qantas discount, newer nad slightly larger aircraft... I even see the girls on tenth year pay going if they had the chance starting again (we're on a ten year pay increase scale).

And yes skysista, we just had a ground school finish training, we've got one training now and yes, there's interviews early January for a January ground school, averaging 15-20 FAs in each ground school. These are for our Perth, Darwin and Cairns Bases. Recruitment is needed regardless of the outcome of the B717 contract, although we should know the outcome between 1 to 3 weeks!

By the way, anyone know any more information other than Virgin Blue thinking about a Perth base in March (delayed from January apparently)?
