Sorry to hear about your new Vanilla. Am sure you will have an excellent time overseas with MYT. I have been working for Thomson overseas for the past 5 years, and loved every minute of it!

I received my letter from Britannia this morning, and it advises about the "pool", and that they will be in contact in the New Year.

Anyone else out there heard anything ?

Hi guys,

I did my open day at Luton airport in October and got through all stages. A week later found out I was accepted and was put in the holding pool (the worst part!)

Just found out today that my contract starts on Jan 11th until Oct 31st. Only bad thing is, is that I have to have my contract signed and posted back to them by tomorrow and only received it today. Worse still is that I am in the States visiting my parents and can't get it back in time so hope all will be alright!

Out of interest is anybody looking at house sharing in Gatwick, if so let me know, otherwise I'm looking for a box to live in LOL! Have roughly 3 weeks to find digs, ain't that nice!!

Hope others that are waiting have good news and have a good Christmas and New Year!:ok:

BALboi 17th January 2005 23:48

Just to say guys n gals that I have been at BY just short of a year.. was one of the VERY lucky few to be given a permament contract straight away
and i have to say that everything about the company is great, I have had brilliant times, including trips too far away places with a decent amount of time over there.
Hope you all have a good time, if anyone needs any help feel free to PM/e-mail me.

Thomson Fly Staff

Hi!
I have been offfered a job with Thomson Fly at Bournemouth as senior cc, but i am in two minds as i do not really know what the company is like to work for.

Also they are unable to advise me of a wage yet as contracts are in discussions under the tui umbrella.

Does anyone work for them or know of a rough wage guestimate? Also, roster patterns, sectors..... etc etc.........

All info would be greatly appreciated as have to let them know if im going to take the job.

Many thanks and happy flying

Airhostie :ok:

myflybhx 8th February 2005 19:09

Hi

I have just joined TOM at CVT, not sure what seniors earn SORRY, as they couldn't offer me a senior position as none available :(

Only been on-line a few weeks and found the rostering etc. very fair! But will have to keep you posted on that........ you know what rosters are like! But at the moment I've generally had 4 days flying then days off!

Things are still be thrashed out at the mo with the union and BY to reach an agreement for us all to get the same terms and conditions!

Sorry can't be of more help! But hope you decide to join us, and I see you on-line!
:ok:

AIRHOSTIE:) 8th February 2005 20:15

to myflybhx!
How many sectors do you do on your days on? and how many days off? sorry know what you said about rosters.
Also, is it true that the flight pay of £6 per hour is taxable and only paid when you are in the air not on the ground?
If you could let me know what your average weekly flight pay is it would be much appreciated.
Its so confusing jumping ship.

Karina 9th February 2005 23:58

My friend and i are planning on going to the one at Gatwick on the 18th and i was just wondering if they email or post the application/reference forms to you?

richxby 10th February 2005 14:24

AIRHOSTIE check your PMs :-)

jetbabe 10th February 2005 23:50

all i know is new starters at cvt, boh, mme, and dsa will be on t-fly contracts - whatever that entails. if you are a new starter at by existing bases then you will be on by contracts.

ps the above bases are 6 months.

pay is still under negotiation so wait for your offer!!:yuk: :{

Good luck in joing us!

Rachie 17th February 2005 19:07

£9847? you're kidding? Lucky escape there then....

chicken legs 19th February 2005 09:34

Rachie, this is the second time you have posted this comment - we heard you the first time!

I think you will find the hourly rate at BY is higher than MYT and most other charter airlines and certainly have some of the best terms and conditions in the business.

Good luck JT, hope you enjoy it at LPL.

fly_guy_021 19th February 2005 12:39

Couldn't agree with you more chicken legs!

Rachie, you obviously think the grass is greener in MYT, well i think you'll find its not due to the lack of career prospects etc and this is coming from someone who has turned down the chance to do a second season with MYT and instead go for Britannia.

I think you'll find that after your first season of flying, if you really want a career out of it, you'll be doing the same because thats all you're ever going to get with MYT for the next X amount of years is seasonal work or a 7-5 contract.

regards

fly_guy_021

CABINBOY25 19th February 2005 13:53

Rachie,

I dont think you have had a lucky escape at all. I have worked for a few different airlines including Airtours/MyTravel. I was in a senior crew position and got made redundant due to base closure and the companys poor financial situation. There a great bunch of crew at MYT, but if this is your first season as crew and you want a permanent contract or any chance of a career then I wouldnt of taken MYT. Britannia are in a much better position and offer better prospects. Good luck anyway!

fly_guy_021 19th February 2005 13:57

da iawn da iawn.....welshcake sir?

JT190676 19th February 2005 13:57

Hi All

Just wanted to say thanks to the above people who have passed on their support for Britannia.

Its a very un-nerving time - starting a new job - who to go with etc etc, but by the sounds of it - I have definately made the right choice in choosing Britannia.
I have actually worked for Thomson for the past 5 years - working overseas as a Customer Service Manager, and must admit, they do look after you.
Only time will tell - but guess I will know soon enough when I start my training on the 1st March !!!!

JT

Rachie 19th February 2005 15:54

I posted it already? oops!

I think I read (somewhere on here) that the hourly rate at BY is £2.67?

apologies if I caused any offence - good luck to those who are going with Britannia - I'm not being bitchy but how do people manage on such low pay? Do you take flight pay and commission into account when budgeting? I'm trying to work out how much I can spend on rent/food etc and it's quite terrifying

CABINBOY25 19th February 2005 17:15

Rachie,

The basic pay differs between airlines but most charter carriers work out the same in the end, Britannias flight pay is higher than MYT so you will earn the same roughly at MYT and BY at the end of the month, if i was you i'd take BY. The longhauls not as good now at MYT not like the old Airtours days and chances of being kept on are low. Good luck anyway and happy flying.

Hostessmostess 19th February 2005 18:19

Hi Rachie

I worked at MYT last season and had a great time, however I completely agree with the other views on here: re prospects.

You will have a great summer, but you wont get any more than that for a long time!

If you want a mere chance of a perm contract in a few seasons time, you have to go with BY bcos you have absolutley NO chance at MYT of that.

I know like all the other newbie girlies you want the nice hat, but I would rather go for the stylish new BY uniform and better career prospects.

Good luck anyways

Cab1nCrew 19th February 2005 19:16

Hey Rach,

Dont be put off with the basic salary's that airlines offer! They are all roughly the same, but by the time you take into account commission, flying hours, and all the other little bits that we get, you will be 'shocked' at the amount you do actually take home!

I started flying for Brit many years ago, my basic was under 8K, 7995 i think...! not good eh? but at the end of the 1st financial year i had taken just under 25k before tax, NI etc... Rem your flight pay of 2.67 per hour is payed around the clock. ie if your were to do a 5 day trip somewhere, either in the uk, or somewhere further affield, you will get that from the minitue you report on the 1st day, till the minute you arrive back at your base. So, 5 days at 120 hours = just over £320, not bad for doing virtually nothing!

Have a good think before you decide to give flying a miss?

Take care,

Cab.

Rachie 19th February 2005 21:53

I'm having serious doubts as to if I want to to it at all :( even just for the season which was my original plan..

... hang on I'll take this somewhere else..
:p drink anyone?

fly888 19th February 2005 23:04

Hi Rachie
I worked for MYT last summer and thoroughly enjoyed my time with the company - it was brilliant!

I have been asked back this summer and am facing a dilemma having to choose between Britannia and MYT. Britannia would offer me the best career prospects at the particular base that I would be located, but unfortunately the salary is quite a bit lower (enough to make a difference to my finances/outgoings (even taking into consideration the higher flight allowance with Britannia)).

Your long term prospects may or may not be better with MYT but you will still gain valuable experience and hopefully be asked back the following year (or you can always apply to other airlines afterwards).

Although I am still considering my options, I will always think very highly of my time with the company and have many fond memories from last year! I am sure that you will also have a great time - please don't be put off!

Karina 21st February 2005 01:10

Hi,

Did anyone here go to the Britannia open day at gatwick on fri?
How did you get on?

My friend and i got through the group bit but there was so many people, they didn't have time to do the interview bit, so we're going back on monday.:ok:

Karina 22nd February 2005 01:52

Hi,

Did the interview earlier this evening. After a long old day at work, I then drove up to gatwick to do my interview at 7pm. Managed to get there 20 mins early, and then realised i was in the wrong terminal!

I think it went ok, but i don't want to be too optimistic. I think my examples and stuff were ok, but i might have babbled a bit, so i really don't know what to think.

The lady asked me what words my friends would use to describe me. She said i seemed like a very outgoing person but like i was holding back a bit, or was it just interview nerves? Don't quite know what to make of that.

Anyway, it was my first time so it is all good experience, even if i don't get it. It wasn't as terrifying as i thought.

I asked, if successful, that what starting dates they were looking at. She said they were looking at the march 27th course. So, that leaves plenty of time to give notice to employers. But, if we have to wait 7-14 days for a reply, and then hand in 4 weeks notice, that's gonna take beyond the 27/03/05. (Or are they trying to tell me something,)

And, just in case anyones interested, I asked how many positions they were recruiting for. She said it changes every day, but today they were looking for 11 new recruits.

Thanks
Karina :ok:

Ps. If anyone else went, i'd really like to hear how you all got on.

Thomsonfly Recruitment - 2006

Hi folks

I'm in the holding pool(Cabin Crew) and have cardiff base as my no1 choice, cant remember what I put as my 2nd/3rd doh. Had my letter in mid Sept and cant wait to start, but still a few months to wait i guess!! I see they are still interviewing until Dec 14th.

Just wondering if there is anyone else here in the holding pool or anyone who has yet to attend an interview...

Also would be nice to hear from current BY/TOM crew. Any advice on bases? Im particularly interested in CWL/MAN/BRS and well......any!

Rob :}

fly_guy_021 29th November 2005 18:58

Hi Rob!

I'm Andrew and work for TFLY out of cardiff, Joined the company in march, got laid off at end of october and am now just waiting for a rejoiners date (hopefully jan so we've been told). I know there's an initial training course in january so fingers crossed you maybe on that one.

You'll love cardiff, small and really friendly base. You've joined at the right time what with all the expansion planned from may '06. Any questions feel free to ask.

Andy.

2XUS 29th November 2005 21:01
