Australian Airlines Interview Update
 

Hello all I just reveived confirmation from AO recrutiment about the interveiw process. A little disappointing for me as I am living in Tokyo.
The below is taken from the email......

"Our process has changed and will now require two interview sessions - one
in November and, if proceeded through the first process, a second process
in February.

I had not yet considered people outside Australia with double travel
requirements."

It gives an indication I assume that if the second interview is in February that the start date may not be til around March. Just my guess.

News is, that it's for wait list, possibly 6 months or more. We may need some crew for early april, start of northern summer shedules. We should have a/c 5 full-time. The latest on expansion is, for a 6th a/c maybe start of northern winter shedule, which is november next year. This recruitment drive is to have potential staff ready to train, in case Qantas want us to expand a little quicker.

Sorry but no southern base. This is for Cairns only. The airlines' next expansion plans is for cairns. Eg Shanghai, Singapore via Darwin, Mumbai shuttle out of Singapore, which connects with Qantas/ Ba Hub.

missleadfoot and mid assist - thanks for the info on AO - your posts are always informative and encouraging. It sounds like you are really enjoying Cairns and AO.

Question: will AO fly directly all the way to Mumbai or will it be to Singapore with pax connecting onto a BA flight to Mumbai? Shanghai sounds like a great new destination for you all.

I wish they go all the way to Mubai, rather than coming back from singapore. Coz I can speak good hindi. so i can get in:eek:

We will be doing sin-mum-sin shuttles once we get the 5th aircraft full time, which should be in 9-12 months. BUt then again in this industry nothing is set in concrete!

Yes, we have a wonderful lifestyle up here. Our first year party on Saturday was lots of fun, and a good chance to see first hand how big we have grown!

I gota call today too:{ what i wasn;t home and they said call before 5pm eastern time. What do i do now? should i call them tomorrow in the morning what time?
They just want to talk about my application for fa position.

Good ideas will be appreciated.

dr. phili .......did she say, they will call you or they will send you a letter to confirm the date for the interview in cairns. gosh i'm just getting paranoid...:rolleyes:

You will hear within the next 3 weeks if you have been successful.
You will then attend a group interview.
500 people applied in this last round and it makes little sense for 500 people to fly to Cairns for interviews.
All your details needed to be confirmed and it needed to be confirmed that you met all the necessary selection criteria.
People move on with their lives find other jobs etc and some people just aren't interested anymore.
People change their mind when it comes to deciding if they could live in Cairns or not.
Don't kid yourselves on the Southern base.
Cairns airport can handle 6 AO aircraft. The 6th wont be here at least until the middle of next year.
It makes absolutely no business sense at this point in time or the forseeable future to begin a Southern base.
Unless you can be sure you can live in Cairns away from family and friends, don't waste your money, your time, and the companys time applying.
It's not easy and many people become homesick.
It's a great job and you'll love the company and the people and our great destinations, however it can be tough when your loved ones are so far away.

Hi all I had a telephone discussion with AO on the weekend in Tokyo! They confirmed my details, asked me about my previous work employment, and standard situational based questions....e.g tell me about team work in your current job and why did you choose AO......all the questions that most of us are familar with from other Airline interviews......

thanx so fresh for the info, but i had the number in my diary anyway.

I called em today and they said that we managed to call 420 peple in the weekend and they are still outstanding people like me 30 more.
I wish i was home and attended the call but never mind..

Hopefully they will call us 30 remaining this week sometime full battery always charged now.

Any chance someone could post the AO address?

Just an update from what I have heard.....

Phone interviewing 700 applicants

Personal interviews then held in Capital cities

Shortlisters come to Cairns for finals.

There must have been a lot of applicants, they have never done phone interviews before. As I said this is only what I have heard in the last few days so if anyone can correct me I'm sure a lot of people would be greatful. Anyway it seems to be a fair way of doing it, I'm sure they wouldn't ask 700 people to come to Cairns on the chance they may be successful.

PS: Also heard southern base has not been outruled completely but will not happen in the foreseeable future, so I agree, don't pin your hopes on that one.

AO looking for a group of 12 for an early ground school next year - 4 have already been placed on the ground school from last "soft" recruitment leaving another 8 positions to be filled for the next ground school, the remaining candidates from this recruitment will go on to waitlist for ground school next year when the next 763 arrives.

I finally got an interview with AO, with other 19 candiates. Its all group seminars thingo dunno.

Can any one give me info what to expect from group seminars..
