E-Cigarets
 

Just curious as to rules and regulations (also thoughts) regarding E-Cigarets on flights with-in Australia.
I'm a non-smoker myself so maybe I'm being biased on that I don't think they should be allowed. Besides the fact it may cause confusion with other passengers and some research has shown that it can be toxic for the consumer.

on EK they prohibited E-Cigs, I would presume (feel free to scald if wrong) they are more than likely also prohibited within oz being as strict as they are :)
as far as opinion and this is of my own, seeing someone with an e-cig MAY entice someone to try light up a regular cigarette. I would say not allowed anywhere if i had my way :D

I know Qantas do not allow them - not sure about other carriers.

That said, it's totally legal to carry them on board an aircraft, ideally dismantled, and I'm sure pax, particularly on long-haul, 'smoke' them discreetly in their seats, or in the lavatories.

I had this dilemma a short while ago on my flight and I'd like to be prepared for next time.

A_J, what was the nature of your dilemma?

I have seen an incident on board where someone was smoking an E-cig in a provocative manner, obviously intended to make others think he was smoking a real cigarette, cupping it in his hands when approached, and generally being very childish. Unfortunately someone took the bait and challenged him, at which point the CC intervened very professionally (EZY) and he was asked to stop 'smoking' it.

This adds to the argument for banning them (on public transport).

A word of warning do not bring into Singapore as they are banned......!!

Wasn't it an e-cigarette that caused the recent megabus incident? I could imagine a similar scenario in the air one day.

E cigarettes should be treated as normal cigarettes, as the confusion that smoking these things can cause confusion beyond all belief...

Why are they banned in Singapore ?

Everything is banned or carries a fine in Singapore

In addition to BlueTui reply like most things if the government is not making duties and taxes on it ......... end of story....

I'd rather see them ban megabus, that logo bloke of theirs is highly alarming.

Like Kindle sleep screens electric cigarettes will be sent to baffle air crew for years to come. Ask the pax, then employ common sense. I see no harm in their discreet use onboard. Tried one recently and personally found it rank. I'll stick to a yearly B&H at Christmas and on special occasions like Camilla! ;)

I flew EZY yesterday and happened to notice in their in-flight magazine it says something along the lines of : "all easyJet flights are strictly non-smoking and this applies also to E-cigarettes."

I flew Orbest Airlines yesterday and they had on sale a form of e-cig or similar which claimed to be acceptable anywhere including on board. Will pay more attention to the brochure and maybe ask the CC on the return journey.
