girtbar:ok:

Nearly made a comment but didn't want to encourage it.

walterthesofty 27th Sep 2012 21:17

Good to see some US carriers are planning to charge these gross lardies extra

what is wrong with these people? no self respect whatsoever

sisemen 29th Sep 2012 15:59

she is entitled to get on the plane and be treated with respect
Well said :D There is absolutely no reason whatsoever why she couldn't be safely accommodated in a hold cage with all the other overweight baggage.

For the sanctimonious amongst you perhaps you ought to decide which passenger has the right to greater sympathy - the grossly overweight who are costing you a fuel penalty and can sometimes seriously inconvenience adjacent pax; or the pax who has also paid their dough to be conveyed in a manner which they thought they would be without some lard arse pressing them up against the cabin wall.

walterthesofty 29th Sep 2012 16:30

Spot on, i had the misfortune to be the meat in a very lardy sandwich last time i flew to the states, had two enormous porkers either side, i now refuse to sit next to any obese slob and will happily make a scene if thats required to get moved

Planemike 29th Sep 2012 16:59

Shocked by this intolerant "holier than thou" attitude. Some people are larger..........just accept it. Live and let live, perhaps.

obese slob and will happily make a scene if that's required to get moved
Hey "walter" wonder what of slob you are?!!! Think if I was a member of the CC and you "made a scene" reckon I would ensure there were no other suitable seats available.

Sisemen, your post is deliberately offensive, and bullsh!t to boot.
It´s not either/or; it´s both. And you know it.
All pax pay. Which entitles all of them to be treated courteously by us, the airline´s staff.
Similarly, all pax need to treat airline staff and each other with respect.

Part of that is obese pax needing to carefully read their chosen airline´s policy for big pax, and, as the OP in this case, trying to inform themselves about the situation.
Well done MHM for asking, and well done girtbar for that perfect answer about your airline´s way of dealing with this matter. :ok:

Walter, much more effective than playing the abrasive tough guy on an anonymous internet forum or making a scene on board, is printing out your carrier´s policy on obese pax.
If you find yourself in the very uncomfortable situation of being squeezed by a neighbour overflowing his/her seat, ask for the FA in charge before take-off. Show them their own airline´s policy and politely insist that you expect them to enforce it.

If you, rather than starting off with communicating like a civilised adult, would start off by making a scene instead on a flight where I was in charge of the cabin, I´d not be inclined in any way at all to accommodate you. Never mind the circumstance.
Behave like a Neanderthal on board, and get treated accordingly.
Behave like an abusive Neanderthal and get off-loaded ASAP.
Politely insist on what is right, at a time when the crew can still take effective action, and you will succeed.

walterthesofty 29th Sep 2012 17:27

I said even if that means making a scene, which suggests id say that making a scene is a last resort if the crew refuse to comply with my polite initial request, so far none have

Might be a idea to have a bloaters seating area where they can all sit together and inflict their misery on each other

Hounddog1 29th Sep 2012 19:15

special section

and a special section, in the rear belly of the aircraft preferably the unpressorised hold to put people like you.

perhaps a visit to court would be good, as your comments are verbal abuse of these individuals, not all large people are that way due to over eating, some do have medical conditions and large boned people do exist, yes i am one of them .

walterthesofty 29th Sep 2012 19:36

Large boned my arse, 99.9 percent of lard arses are the size they are because the calorific intake is not matched by their calorie burn, ie they sit on there fat arses and scoff to excess ....end of story

Captain Slackbladder 29th Sep 2012 20:35

If overweight people should pay more, then underweight people should pay less. All of my children weigh less than an average adult yet I had to pay full fare for all of them when we flew. Two of which could comfortably sit in one seat without hindering anyone. We could make it so that when you boom you give your mass, then you are re weighed on entry to the aircraft and fined on the difference.

Or we could be civilised and charge per seat.

Expressed so succinctly and with such charm............!!!

Hounddog, If you embark upon a regime of exercise and sensible diet you will amazingly find those big bones gradually shrinking to normal size bones;)

sisemen 30th Sep 2012 05:22

Juud. Yeah, whatever :hmm:

Unlike the lard arses that envelope one's personal space without a by your leave and regard it as an entitlement that one has to, literally, fit around for their convenience I maintain a standard of politeness and respect for the CC job and would not make a public scene unless I was absolutely forced to by the CC attitude.

I generally occupy the left-hand front seat as well as down the back as a paying customer; my daughter is an ex senior CC; my son-in-law is a senior exec in the airline business. I know enough about the vagaries of airline travel not to be lectured to - thank you.

Juud 30th Sep 2012 06:41

Indeed Sisemen.

You know a lot about cicil aviation.

Civil behaviour on the other hand ... ;)

camel 30th Sep 2012 07:10

thank god no one is calling her a pleb...

sisemen 30th Sep 2012 07:20

I find it ungentlemanly to trade intellectual insults with an unarmed person.

scotbill 30th Sep 2012 08:51

Without getting involved in criticism of personal life styles, there is an important issue here that needs to be discussed
The OP is almost exactly twice the weight of the average passenger used in load sheet calculations. Given the rise in the overweight proportion of the population there are serious implications for the accuracy of the calculations with regard to performance and fuel burn.
In other forms of transport weight and bulk determine cost. In a system where excess baggage weight can prove extremely expensive, why should passengers be exempt from basic economics?
And that is before you consider the discomfort caused to their neighbours on the flight.

canard68 30th Sep 2012 15:10

I always wondered if by freak of circumstance an aircraft can be overloaded by all the pax being "big boned" and carrying max baggage.

Agaricus bisporus 30th Sep 2012 15:15

Surely if you don't fit into one seat you must buy two? Or is that just too obvious to be mentioned?
If that's deemed not fair I'm going to bring a 40Kg suitcase along and demand its allowed on foc because I can't help it if my baggage has a glandular problem and it has rights...

As an afterthought perhaps there is an opportunity here for the pikey? Charging pax by the Kilo. That should get a coupla months more free advertising.

paull 30th Sep 2012 15:45

ScotBill:

why should passengers be exempt from basic economics?
My understanding is that with the exception of Concorde, extra baggage weight is not anywhere as expensive as it is charged. So, if you charge lots more money based on an individual's weight, some airline (in fact, all of them!) will decline to do so and will welcome all the passengers you no longer have. I think the airlines are well aware of 'basic economics' .

I'm overweight but I usually travel without bags. Last time anyone in aviation asked my weight was for the helicopter from a manufacturing plant in Stow, MA to Boston's Logan Airport. Downtown they would fly between the buildings - those were the days pre 9/11...:)
