this happened in my company too. the other crew bacame suspicious and like 99.99% of decent crew members reported her. were the police called? no indeed. this person was allowed to take voluntary redundancy and got a nice big golden handshake for her troubles. dispicable individual and a dispicably cowardly display of treatment by airline management.
we are all very careful of our handling of this money, it is collected in special sealable bags by 2 cabin crew, placed into a locked and sealed container until return to base and then deposited in the bank by 2 other crew members. stealing is disgusting in any form but i agree with domestos, this is even more disgusting as its taking money and shelter from the mouths of the most ill and deprived children in the world. the wheel turns, maybe slowly, but in the end karma will always catch up with you.

Consider the amounts of flights.

Consider the amount of donations.

I still say this sort of thing happens once in a while so would make it an isolated incident.

And to make personal comments about Gillians apperance is just childish.

Domestos 12th Nov 2008 14:45

...."comments about Gillian childish"??????????? Get a grip! With all the money she has taken from Unicef, you would have thought she could have done something useful with it like get liposuction and major cosmetic surgery......but NO! She had to spend it all on "choclit" biscuits.....maybe she was fed up with her previous diet of "dust"....anyone? no?

You're not getting it are you Ozzie? She is said to have stolen £100,000 of this charity money. The crew bag from behind the shed was so heavy it could barely be lifted off the floor. Do you think all this money was stolen on one flight? These thefts obviously occurred over a lengthy period of times on a hell of a lot of flights so that hardly makes them isolated and I'm not sure why you're at such pains to stress that they are. Also bear in mind how much theft occurs (from anywhere) that is never discovered.

No doubt, after your sycophantic defence of the "Facebook 13", you're working on a similar defence for this woman (or "Gillian" as you cloyingly refer to her as - she's not your girlfriend is she :} )

OzzieO 12th Nov 2008 15:41

No I am not defending her as I am gay and probably not really her type.

Yes I do get it actually and I am not defending her actions for one moment.

However try to look at the bigger picture. Might be hard for some of you but go on give it a try.

Tudor 12th Nov 2008 15:54

If you explain what you mean by "the bigger picture" then I'll try and have a look at it. As far as I can see you're adamant that it's an isolated incident when there are at least three other people on this thread (including me) who say it has happened at other airlines. When you consider this forum is, realistically, used by a tiny percentage of cabin crew worldwide, this hints at these types of theft being anything but isolated incidents. So, perhaps it's you who isn't seeing the bigger picture?

Incidentally, does anyone know why airlines are so philanthropically inclined and which was the first airline to introduce charity collections onboard?

Domestos 12th Nov 2008 15:59

...yes we are looking at the "bigger picture"...a picture of a very big woman who "loves a bit of cake...yeah?"

No one is saying that you are defending her. Its just that the tone of your post sounded as if this "isolated incident" is condonable. Yes it may be an isolated incident, but that doesn't make it tolerable or acceptable. I'm sure there are lots of trolley dollies out there who have committed varying degrees of theft (like my paperclip fetish)....but the point we are trying to make here is that this woman has committed a crime...irrespective of whether it happens everyday or seldom. The fact that she got caught and her lard face has been splashed in the press should act as a warning to all those Unicef theives out there.

OzzieO 12th Nov 2008 16:04

Am I defending her actions? No.

Do you know this woman? Probably not.

And yes considering the amount of money donated to the charity I still think its a isolated incident.

As for my tone well sorry you feel that way.

strake 12th Nov 2008 16:06

I hadn't really taken too much notice of this until I flew to Linate today and the Unicef announcement came on. Whereas before, I wouldn't think twice about putting some change in, one can't help thinking about the case as you open the envelope.
There appear to be two losers here, the kids and honest cabin crew who must feel very uncomfortable about the whole thing.
Anyway, I have to believe that the money I've given over the last 15 or so years has gone exactly where it's supposed to and on that basis, I'm still giving.:ok:

Little_Red_Hat 12th Nov 2008 16:07

PMSL Domestos, god you've had some classics over the last few days... but 'choclit biscuits' has to take the cake (no pun intended!) :}

Regardless of how often it does or doesn't happen, it's a disgusting crime and there with the lowest... stealing from starving and dying children, really!!

I just about had a nervous breakdown when I once discovered a Unicef envelope in my apron, I had put it there when a passenger handed it to me, had a week off and forgot about it. I felt so bad I matched the amount written on the outside as my own way of making up for being so late putting it in at the crew centre... how anyone could not feel bad about actually STEALING this money.... boggles the mind...:ugh:

I do wonder how she slept at night, and as they said, it's not like she was stealing it for medical bills or to feed herself the basic life necessities... (not that it would be an excuse either but you know what I mean!)

Domestos 12th Nov 2008 16:33

Look OssieO...I'm not having a dig at you at all and I respect that you may have a different perspective on the situation. So we will leave it at that.

No...you are right...I don't know Gillian....I got kicked out of 'Fat Fighters' because I didn't pass the weigh in.

Litte Red Hat....like I've said before...I've been exposed to too much cosmic radiation.

OzzieO 12th Nov 2008 17:52

Its ok I don't take things personally.

The world would be a boring place if we all agreed on the same thing.

T4Turtle 12th Nov 2008 22:13

Gillian Paterson

I say bring back medieval stocks and let's lock up Gillian Paterson outside LHR and throw rotten tomatoes at her! A non custodial sentence is not a deterrent as Gillian has clearly demonstrated that she has profited from her greed, however, this is an immeasurable sum that a court cannot assume. What an awful individual Gillian Paterson is and those of a similar disposition!

radeng 13th Nov 2008 10:15

I would have thought that the trouble involved in collecting the change in the various currencies, taking it somewhere you can change it into notes, bringing it back and getting it changed wasn't worthwhile. After all most banks won't touch coins. I wonder if the full story has come out yet?Not that I have any sympathy for her....

99jolegg 13th Nov 2008 10:39

I suppose her sentence is far more reaching...it's with her for a long time. She won't get work in the aviation industry again and probably won't get work in a customer service role, or any other role that demands a lot of trust.

In fact, any recruiter that types her name into Google to see if there is a bit of background to her, will see her on the archives of those press articles...picture and all!

So I would say her punishment seems fairly complete...

Beer_n_Tabs 13th Nov 2008 13:18

And to make personal comments about Gillians apperance is just childish.
This is true..........

But....................

She does have a face like a smacked arse :ok:

Theres no getting away from it.......well I suppose there is if you steal 100K from kids, but she decided to pay off the mortgage instead of paying to get her 'boat-race' fixed.

Insults about her appearance !!........pah, the cow deserves everything she gets I say. It would make a fine addition to my day to hope that the ugly bint was reading all the insults about her on here.

Lots of Love
Beer_n-Tabs :}
