A Book That May Be Of Interest . . .
As a member of the Lexington Group in Transportation History >http://www.lexingtongroup.org<, it was brought to my attention that a fellow Lexingtonian, Kathleen M. Barry, has recently written a book that may be of interest to participants of this bulletin board:
Femininity in Flight: A History of Flight Attendants Kathleen M. Barry 328 pages (February 2007) 19 b&w photos $79.95 (hardbound) [ISBN13 978-0-8223-3934-2] $22.95 (softbound) [ISBN13 978-0-8223-3946-5] http://www.dukeupress.edu/cgibin/for...ain.item=14885 This is merely brought to you as information only -- not to be interpreted as a promotional advertisement for the book. := ONTPax |
ONTPax, I can agree that it's very interesting. I just finished it. There is a paperback edition which I think is less expensive that $79.99 (unless those are not USD); I just got my copy at a conference and I'm pretty sure the price was US$24. It's mostly a history of US flight attendants, but the labour history is fascinating. (And as an aside, the shoes are pretty hot!)
Drew Whitelegg also has a book out, "Working the Skies: The Fast-Paced, Disorienting World of the Flight Attendant". I haven't read that one yet, but it's next on my list :8 |
The book is offered in both hardbound and paperback, and the website page from Duke University Press lists both prices.
Here's some others. I also noticed Amazon is selling the above-mentioned book a little cheaper than the publisher . . . http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...mood&x=16&y=18 ONTPax |
