A Book That May Be Of Interest . . .
As a member of the Lexington Group in Transportation History >http://www.lexingtongroup.org<, it was brought to my attention that a fellow Lexingtonian, Kathleen M. Barry, has recently written a book that may be of interest to participants of this bulletin board:
Femininity in Flight: A History of Flight Attendants
Kathleen M. Barry
328 pages (February 2007)
19 b&w photos
$79.95 (hardbound)
[ISBN13 978-0-8223-3934-2]
$22.95 (softbound)
[ISBN13 978-0-8223-3946-5]

ONTPax, I can agree that it's very interesting. I just finished it. There is a paperback edition which I think is less expensive that $79.99 (unless those are not USD); I just got my copy at a conference and I'm pretty sure the price was US$24. It's mostly a history of US flight attendants, but the labour history is fascinating. (And as an aside, the shoes are pretty hot!)
Drew Whitelegg also has a book out, "Working the Skies: The Fast-Paced, Disorienting World of the Flight Attendant". I haven't read that one yet, but it's next on my list

The book is offered in both hardbound and paperback, and the website page from Duke University Press lists both prices.
Here's some others. I also noticed Amazon is selling the above-mentioned book a little cheaper than the publisher . . .
