Hi all
Can anybody out there tell me whether female cabin crew in Flybe are permitted to wear trousers as part of the uniform? My partner does wear them for her current airline but may soon be transferring to Flybe. As trivial as it sounds, it could be the one thing that causes her to turn the job down! No unless it is for medical or religious reasons i believe.
We are currently putting forward ideas for a new uniform,and i think all of us have said we would like trousers. |
Many thanks for that. Hopefully you'll be successful in getting them. She's dreading the idea of having to go back to wearing a skirt on the aircraft.

I can confirm there's definitely no trouser option for Flybe girlies. And I have it on good authority that there never will be as long as the current management team is in place - they believe that skirts 'project a more professional, full-service, customer-oriented image' :).

Flybe - Good or Bad?

Ive been reading about the expansion plans for Flybe and wondered about applying. Does anyone work for them at any Scottish bases? if so, what are the conditions, pay, rosters like please? Any info would be great. Thanks for your help. Are they recruiting soon? Cheers! :) |
The current expanision plans are a franchise with Loganair, in which the Flybe brand will be used by Loganair. The Loganair Franchise is a seperate operation, so if you were interested in working for them, you would need to apply to Loganair. They have bases at Glasgow and Edinburgh, and a base in Aberdeen. The routes operated by Loganair will not be operated by Flybe crews or aircraft, and vice versa - Flybe routes will not be operated by Loganair crews or aircraft. They are still a seperate airline.
Rostering - either 5 on 2 off or 6 on 3 off. Block standbies of 5 days, 3 nights/4 days operating out of Guernsey or Jersey. Finish on lates before days off,back in on earlies.If you get an early 2 sector day, you'll most likely have a 2 hour airport standby tagged to the end of it. We also do standalone 6 hour airport standby. Majority of the days are 4 sectors. Pay - as a junior now, a good month for me now is £1100 after tax, as our Flight duty pay of £1.90ph is fully taxed. I dont know what the basic salary is for new entrants at the moment. Lot of political issues at the moment with the scheduling agreement and t&c's but hopefully these will be resolved soon.I'm guessing as a new entrant, you would come onto the new scheduling agreement, which I dont know much about, but appears to be a bit of an improvement on the current one some of us are operating on. Flybe crew are based in Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh. I would actually go along with that. As a passenger I think Flybe's uniform does give off a more professional image than some of its rival loco's and would hope that the uniform will stay as it is. |
Is that purely from a 'guys' perspective Devon Guy? British Airways have trousers for female cabin crew. Are they not portraying a professional image then?

Hmmmm I really don't know.......I flew years ago in Australia with Ansett and the women there wore trousers, somehow it didn't seem as professional. It's a bit like for me when I have a dress down day at work, somehow the atmosphere changes entirely, people relax more don't work as much etc.....
There is no right or wrong answer I guess, but for me I prefer the current style of uniform. |
We also need CA3s for Glasgow.

TightSlot will condemn me for saying this, no doubt, but I think DevonGuy's comment proves the Flybe management have a point. IMHO a skirts-only uniform looks smarter and more professional and as one of their crew I'm glad Flybe is upholding standards in this department :).

Was wondering if there was anyone from BHX or MAN that could let me know a little bit about how these two bases are to work at regarding rosters, pay, seniority, ability to go part-time, general morale etc.

I am BHX based, please read my above post for pretty much everything you mentioned. Part time is a rareity, and usually goes to people who have got children. Morale not brilliant at the moment due to political issues over the scheduling agreement and ex BA Connect pay off to get ex BA Connect staff off the previous scheduling agreement.It is causing tensions between some crewmembers (not all) and flybe crew feel undervalued because theyre NOT getting a pay off, and ex BA Connect crew feel undervalued because of the poor amount offered by Flybe. Manchester, things are slightly better as all the crew are ex-BA Connect, so there is no tensions over the scheduling agreement, people feeling it is unfair etc. |
I wouldn't say things are any better at man - just that everyone is of the same opinion:ugh:

Thats what i meant dolly - there is no conflict of opinion, whereas at BHX there has been, and in some cases quite nasty and i've heard of people threatening to offload because of this conflict of opinion.

See what you mean - I was just saying that even though their is no conflict man crew are still very unhappy with scheduling agreement. pay award, pay off etc etc so morale is low.
Just out of interest why do flybe crew feel they should have a payoff? I doubt any of them have lost up to a weeks holiday, free confirmed long haul flights for years of service - as far as I can see they have only gained since the merger:= |
