Sharky I too have similar problems. I am currently not spending any time in the gym, however I found when I was and particularly when I worked on my back muscles I had a lot less back pain at work. I also find crouching down when I want to get something out of the bottom of the cart works better than bending over - plus its better for your legs/glutes :8

Hmm, we weren't taught how to sit for take-off/landing, yet we were taught manual handling tecniques and if these are followed this should alleviate a lot of back pain. (such things as sinala mentioned, like bending at the knees and maintaining the 3 natural curves of your spine)
