Don't feel bad. I am one of those strange people that others feel comfortable spilling their gutts to. This is a blessing ans a curse as it happend nearly every day. I can't tell you how many times I've heard 'I've never told anyone this before.....'
:D

barrythecat 16th Jul 2005 09:46

I don't suppose there's any chance of YOU making a film is there?:D

'Cos that sounds like one worth viewing!!!:E

After being a mere spectator on this site for months I decided to finally join when I noticed the topic of this movie so I could put my two cents in.

A friend of mine (who is a flight attendant) bought the film "The Aviary" for me as a birthday gift. I have always been interested in Aviation and becoming a flight attendant so I guess she thought I would like it. Before watching it all I knew is that it was a feature film written and produced by a flight attendant. I had also read an article in the San Francisco Chronicle about the gal who made it:SF CHRONICLE ARTICLE
After finally watching the film I can honestly say that it blew me away. I'm not sure how much it was made for (although I have read that it was between 25-50K) but it has amazing production value (I would have guessed the budget at closer to 1-2 mill). The acting is remarkable, beautiful cinematography and the story is very compelling. As an aspiring film maker and aviation buff I was truly inspired by this movie. The insiders perspective really shined through this fast paced, thoughtful, honest look at the people who make up the modern world of aviation.

Please tell me your having a joke?

barrythecat 30th Jul 2005 05:47

Hey Ozzie.......do you think Skyboundfornow just might have something to do with the movie???:p

OzzieO 30th Jul 2005 09:09

LOL Barry never thought of that!!!!

"Please tell me you're having a joke" What does that mean exactly? And, by the way, I've been watching this and many other topics on the site for some time. Not "having something to do with the movie" and finally deciding to post on one of these things because it seemed like a friendly discussion. I guess I'll think twice before trying that again. Ouch.

Skyboundfornow you are of course entitled to say whatever you like as I am.

I watched the movie and didn't like it. Its as simple as that! Its not a true reflection on life as a flight attendant. Maybe I missed something I don't know but it just didn't work for me.

You said and I quote;

"The acting is remarkable, beautiful cinematography and the story is very compelling".

The acting remarkable? More like wooden and stiff.

Beautiful Cinematography? I am genuinely curious please expand on this point.

Story very compelling? Are you sure we are talking about the same movie here??

Skyboundfornow- I owe you an apology too, I honestly thought you were having a laugh. If you enjoyed the film as much as you say then thats great.
If I was you though, I'd ask my friend for socks next birthday:p

Yeah, an insiders perspective that portrayed crew in uniform (including hats!!!) in public bars drinking alcohol........not a very honest look at the people who make up the modern world of aviation at all really!

As the daughter of a flight attendant (my mother passed five years ago) I really related to the movie.
Maybe there are some iddues with costume or whatever (I didn't notice to be honest) but the feeling of lonliness and being anonymous in the world were things my mother used to describe to me when I was younger. She also lived in a "crashpad" environment and it seemed very similar. i don't have any desire to break down every scene or costume issue of the movie. For me, the spirit of my mom's world was reflected in this movie in a way I haven't seen before on screen.

And, yes, I found it beautful visually. I am impressed with the FA who made this. It's just my opinion.

greenpark 2nd Aug 2005 12:56

Hi everyone!

Bought the dvd, still havent watched it, so no opinion so far.
But on the topic of sitting at home, whilst on standby, in your uniform, i had a colleague who did just that.Especially when on an early standby.Once came downstairs to find her asleep, on our couch, in full uniform. She did it so that , if called, she wouldnt waste any time leaving the house. Go figure...

My mom had described waiting in uniform while on reserve too - I was afraid to mention it on this site as I thought the other FA's would have me for lunch:O

Oh, and thanks for the apologies. No problem. I know things get heated here sometimes.:O

Flugbegleiter 6th Aug 2005 14:08

I bought the film about a month ago. It is certainly not a masterpiece, although I did enjoy it. My main problem was that the main character, Summer Posse, was not particularly likeable. She is one of these hosties who is set on finding herself a pilot. Although there are plenty of hosties out there like that, they are not the type I usually warm to or want to associate with.

The film could have focused more on other aspects of flying and I would have enjoyed it more. Nonetheless, I'd still recommend it, just don't have high expectations ;)

One last thing, I really like a song from the film: "The Body and the Brain" by "The New Trust". You can download and save it from The Aviary website (I don't know if you are supposed to be able to save it, but it's possible :))

I tried downloading the song but am having trouble. Can you do it with real player?

DanteDepaula 8th Aug 2005 23:28

Yeah. Real Player works to download the songs. That's what I used.:D

PCav8or 10th Aug 2005 23:46

I ordered the DVD online almost 2 weeks ago. Haven't received it yet, even though the web page says they Fedex it within 2 days. Anyone else have this problem?:*

DanteDepaula 11th Aug 2005 09:42

I received mine in about 7 business days. The site says that they SHIP it within 24-48 hours and it doesnt say fedex it says the US postal service. So, you should probably get it soon. However, if you email the girl, Silver, who made the movie, she usually replies very fast so maybe you should ask her.
FedEx to the UK or anywhere international from the states would be very pricey.
