Would you be tempted to go out with a pilot?
Well....would ya!! ;)
|
Does it imply that pilots are in any way different than other men? :E
|
Jinkster, Ladies only like guys with a high number of Atpl exam passes. SO stop writing rubbish like this and study!!! Then you can practice all your Top Gun lines in front of the Mirror wearing your Uniform. Sorry, it was too easy......
|
cheeky
hahaha |
How do you know when there's a Pilot at a party?
He tells you! My real job is an ice cream man :) |
Yes!
Yes! - I am married to one! ...
So far - no complaints. :O [COLOR=blue]But before I got to know him better I didn't actually like the fact he was a pilot. :hmm: |
Parry, there are more constructive ways to show your disagreement. Try one for a change ;)
flyblue |
I married a trolly dolly and then got divorced, so I married another one, so far so good :O

Does it imply that pilots are in any way different to other men? Airclues |
I know that Airclues ;)
Where I work there are many women pilots. One of my favorite jokes when my friends call me during a layover and ask me where I am, is to answer that I am in the company or in the room of the Captain/Copilot (which is often the case; we tend to do things together lots especially on MH) and hear them choke at the other end until I tell them it's a "SHE" :E BTW, our company is one of the few that has more than one choice of uniform for women pilots; and things will be even better in 2005 when we'll change uniform. See: http://www3.monphotoservice.com/VOLU...oz_5356379.jpg |
I go out with a hostie, who also has a PPL.
Does that count? |
Would you go out with a hostie? (this is not an invitation!):D
|
Would you go out with a hostie? Just for the record, only the female ones. :ok: |
she does hate making tea at home though, can't think why?
I don't mind the uniform though:E |
I have been out with a few pilots. They are just ordinary guys, although say that to a few of them. :D
Now engaged to one and very very happy :ok: |
I go out with a hostie too
she's absolutely lovely but that has nothing to do with the job she does |
I would never date a pilot!!!!!!!
But I just don't seem to be able to help myself :uhoh: Have more or less only been dating pilots the last three or four years. Still haven't found Mr. Right :{ But my New Years resolution is once again to try and keep my hands off them and find someone with a decent job ;) And by God Flyblue....I would just love to work at your company and get my hands on those female uniforms. Very nice :ok: |
Dating a Pilot????!!!
Well I am in a fantasic relationship with a First Officer! Have been for the past 3 and abit years!!!!
And yes, he's a pilot! And yes I am a male cabin crew member!!!!!! Enjoy! FMB |
well, take away the uniform and you get a regular person. no James Bond or Tom Cruise, really.
yes i would't mind getting to know one and date him if he's a fine person. but i'd say if you wanna let him come out as a regular person, you gotta treat like one! and not think him such a lord! i'm married to one, and i knew him when he's in the school uniform! he just has to wear a different uniform for the job.;) |
Depends how cute they are! :-)
Seriously though, I dated another pilot - lived together for 5 years, was a great relationship (while it lasted.......) Trouble is that most pilots are so closeted ....:-) |
If he met up to my stringent standards (!!) then sure I would, why not? I wouldn't go out with a pilot who worked for the same company I do though, that could be career suicide.
A person's career shouldn't make any difference really, it's just a matter of whether you can put up with their lifestyle (and all their ex-wives HA HA). SG :} |
gayflyboy :
I have seen your username around recently and some of the pictures in the Rotorheads thread. I am compelled to ask a question similar to the one another poster asked, albeit a little more pointedly regarding your username. I like to think of myself as quite open minded and liberal, and would feel strongly that no one should be made to feel ashamed about their sexuality or have to hide it. I have seen what people have had to go through coming out, and in fact when I was in Secondary School I saw what one lad had to go through and the turmoil he was in, and for me it was a good lesson in tolerance and understanding. I certainly always try to treat people of any sexuality or race as equals, and judge them by personality. Equally, My username doesnt start with Hetro-ZZZZ etc. Or when I meet people I would shake their hand and say, "Hi, my names X and I am Gay". Its hard to ask that question without sounding like an Arsehole, but its purely out of curiosity. Hope thats not putting you on the Spot, and sorry if it comes across as rude or inconsiderate! Edit:http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...hreadid=114685 Just found this one when I was browsing around. A little bit sad, but clearly not the only one to wonder the same. Well at least I asked politely, or tried to:rolleyes: |
There is an interesting interview question where I work:
What would be your reaction if you went down to the hotel lobby on a layover and found the captain wearing a dress? The correct response would be "Offer to buy her a beer" of course. So yes I have dated pilots and probably will again. |
the gravy stroke™
so turkish after all the excitement what was your question? phone number?? ;) :ok: hehe... jokes...
dude lots of apologies and butt-kissing (no pun intended) there just to ask a question that didnt even get asked. you dont need to tiptoe around if someone thinks its normal and fine just hit him with it... he can take it, right GFB? gravy™ |
mo_gravy, I have been accused of being about as subtle as a sledge hammer in the past an the idea was to make the point without looking like I was a complete dick, so that the question might be taken seriously.
To clarify: GFB, Why do you have the Gay bit at the start of the name. No one else, to the best of my knowledge has there username starting with sexual preference, so why are you different. . dude lots of apologies and butt-kissing (no pun intended) there just to ask a question that didnt even get asked MNT, I am sure that you posted the part I just edited (the one with lots of F-words) breaking the DPP rule (coined by Sick Squid: Don't Post Pi***d!). You have the extenuating circumstance of having being provoked; but may I point out that there are more assertive and effective ways to prove your point? ;) flyblue |
Yes I would be tempted go out with a pilot if she were a women. Dam right I would.
|
mo_gravy...why is it that as soon as I see your username I see a "problems" sign flashing??? http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-014.gif
dude lots of apologies and butt-kissing I strongly suspect that you read the CRM Manual backwards... :} |
To this students chaps who created this forum..
It seems you're in a hurry to find a girlfriend/boyfriend? When you'll be flying one day probably, goota watchout for gold diggers!! of any kind You look a bit vulnerable like a bunny if you pretend just because of your 2 or 3 stripes you can "have" anything you want ;) We have to be a bit more humble and down to earth. It's just another job. It's my passion but a lot of people hate super-ego's. In this bussiness it's really dangerous!!! Just a thought. good luck.:ok: |
if i find a RICH cabin crew ..I go for it!
Just another thought:p M.85 |
To M.85
So do you ask your potential girlfriends to take their bank statements to a first date?
:ok: |
flyblue::O And that version was the third edit! I thought I had it down to respecfable levels, but I dont remember using the F word. Maybe you caught me between edits. Has to be said though, I am starting to learn.
|
MNT,
to be fair to you it was not a full F-word: it had some make-up on, like in "go back where the **** you come from", get the idea? :D ;) |
Oh I see, but thats Irish, it doesnt necessarily mean the same thing.:p I was just exercising my cultural heritage. Sorry for getting told off, I hate to keep you MOds busy!
|
Oops MNT, sorry! I had a look in the dictionary, and realised what you actually meant is: "the place your distinguished breed originates from must be so pleasant that I don't doubt you must be absolutely ecstatic to go back to it" http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-028.gif :D
|
LOL, good one. You have the hang of it now.I'll phase you in slowly with some more over the coming months...
|
With all due respect MNT, why do you have Turkish in your name?
Is it because you associate with the country or is it your real name? Is it part of your identity? Why do I have oz in my name? Is it because it forms part of my identity? No one would ever question why a person has "Jewish", "Disabled", "Black" or "Ozzie", "UK", "Eire" etc etc in their username .... how is having "gay" any different - again its part of your identity.... Whether someone is gay or not and they decide to have it in their username is matter entirely for them..... Please don't take this has having a go at you or your post, but if people were to take the line that they shouldn't use aspects of their life that are important to them to create a username or nickname, then a lot of us are going to be called: Person 1 Person 2 Man 1 And no, I doubt very much that the user in question walks into a room going "Hi I'm <whoever> and I'm gay". The same as I don't walk into a room saying "Hi, I'm <real name> and I'm secretly Ozskipper on line". Its all about identity dude and the values you carry with you and no one has the right to censor that. And now.... back to the topic this thread was started on..... If I wasn't happily married to a particularly sexy nurse and the pilot was of the right gender then yes I'd date one.... But then again, there would have to a little more to them than their occupation to get me interested! |
I lifted the name out of a slightly obscure British Film by Guy Ritchie called "snatch".
Whether someone is gay or not and they decide to have it in their username is matter entirely for them..... Its all about identity dude and the values you carry with you and no one has the right to censor that. I must admit I have a fairly limited experience of Gay people, but the few I know rightly or wrongly, realize that it is best to keep that aspect of themselves low profile. Now I dont think that is acceptable, but you would have only had to look at a thread that this poster particpated in the Australian forums(Which appears to have been deleted, but contained some fairly "alternative" refernces to gays to know why some feel they should. I am not saying that it should have to be hidden, but not shouted about either. I have had my motives questioned by yourself and another on this thread, despite trying to be as clear as possible. I was hoping to gain somewhat of an insight into an area of what I suppose could be refered to as race relations of which I know very little about, and why some people have to hide their private life and some feel they dont need to . But I think my questions have been answered by the attitudes shown on this forum and the one on the Australian one. |
ozskipper,
I don't think whoever puts a certain "identifying" data in his/her username is reluctant to talk about it. If I decide I'll be BigFat1, do you think I would take offence if someone asked me if I chose my username because of my pants size? If you want to hide a characteristic, you don't make a banner of it. Whether someone is gay or not and they decide to have it in their username is matter entirely for them..... I don't think MNT wanted to "question" or "censor" (am I right?) He politely asked a question. If GFB finds it inappropriate, I don't doubt he'll let us know, but I don't think so, otherwise his username would have been "shyflyboy" ;) |
Again, I never said that I wanted him to change it, nor did I ever say it shouldnt be allowed or for it to be forbidden. |
hmmmm
how best to respond...... Why do we choose the names we choose on here? My reason, more than anything else, was that is has been a nickname that I picked up sometime ago, can't remember where or when, but that is not important. Yes, being gay is certainly part of my personality, probably quite a big part. Sexuality is pretty defining for most of us, gay, straight or bisexual. Whilst the choice of my ident was certainly not primarily designed to be political, it seems by some of the posts (esp those my certain Oz's) that perhaps it should be. I am a man, I am a pilot, I enjoy music, travel, theatre, aviation, and I happen to be gay. Being gay affects almost every interraction I have with people though - not becuase they have a problem with it, necsessarily, or because I feel it necessary to shout my orientation from the roof tops (am too old for that!). It affects interpersonal interraction simply because most people assume that most gay people are straigh, that they date people of the opposite sex, that it is fine to crack anti-gay jokes infront of them. Unlike other differences (sex, race, physical disbaility or whatever) sexuality isn't generally obvious when someone walks in the door. There are, of course, some gay people that are "obviously" gay, leading far too many in this industry to behind the back snickering, etc etc. I have been in professional aviation for over 20 years now. My sexuality (or assumed sexuality, as I was actually celibate at the time) lead to my leaving the Royal Navy. Before I came out, I had to stand at the bar listening to my "friends" cracking anti-gay jokes, stereotypical b.s. and so on. When my partner was ill, or there were other isssues in my relationship, I had to keep this to myself, fly with bigoted colleagues, listening to all the usual cr*p. If I had been straight, I could have discussed these problems with my employer, or colleagues and planned crewing/scheduling/etc accordingly, but I couldn't. Looking back on this, I consider it now to have been potentially disastrous from a flight safety point of view. Anyway, after a few years I came out, could be a relaxed normal person - a much better crew member, able to talk about my relationships just as any of my straight colleagues could. Or not to. I now had that choice. The Flight Deck is not the place for fighting discrimination battles. The ground is the place to do that so that, insofar as is possible, discrimination just doesn't exist on the aircraft. It goes against every aspect of good CRM, professionalism, and plain safe flying. It is telling that Turkish mentions that he hasn't met many gay people in aviation. I suspect that he has met many more than he realises. Some of those may just of felt in was not appropriate or necessary to disclose their sexuality. Most though would have kept their sexuality a secret because of the perception of homophobia still far too rife in our industry. All minorities have to fight to be treated equally in far too many cases, be they women, ethnic, or religious. If my ident on this site encourages discussion of discrimination based on sexuality, then that is great - and I am certainly a big enough man to take some of the flack that will be fired around by narrow-minded bigots. What I have actually found in practice, is that most people don't give a damn. And that is just fine by me. That, after all, is just how it should be. |
