Excuse Me!!! but can you clear away this "RUBBISH"
Having recently been presented with a rather intriguing story of a cabin crew member who refused to clear the flight deck of rubbish, (excluding techies) for take off, landing and throughout flight. Claiming it was not in her job description.
I am interested to hear what the general SOP's are, if indeed there are any regarding clearing the Flight Deck at other airlines around the world.
In my experience it has always been a safety related issue ( SOP for all FA's concerned ) and therefore a duty performed with due diligence in any airline I have worked for.
If we the flight attendants don't clear the Flight Deck, then who does ????????
Maaayybee!!!! we could ask the Techies to pass it out through the window to us, just after they have extended the landing gear ???????

We give our pilots a couple of Duty free bags each which they hang on their seat handles and bung all of their rubbish into. Then they pass it to us with their left over meal trays , cups etc.
Officially we are assigned to secure the cabin , I have never been told it is my duty to secure the cockpit but as the Captain is overall commander , if he asked me , how could I refuse a reasonable request?

Cabin crew job description does not specifically specify the receipt and disposal of small bags containing the recent contents of people's stomachs, but we do it anyway.
Sounds to me like this person is demonstrating the kind of attitude that gets us all a bad name - (fitting flame-proof suit at time of writing!)

Well I have to agree with a previous post that we provide our flight deck with duty free bags and they bring them out when down route etc.
I have never been told that it is our responsibility to secure the flight deck, just the cabin........ however that said if a member of the flight deck asked me to clear something away then why not we are supposed to work together!

The cabin cleaners provide a brown paper bag to be used for trash that accululates in the cockpit. I presume it is also removed by the cleaners after the flight as I have never been asked to take care of the bag or seen a pilot put it in our galley trash areas. We are responsible for removing their food trays and drinks bin but the subject of trash removal never comes up! As for expecting the cabin crew to clean the cockpit- I suppose asking them for a bag would be more thoughtful than expecting them to pick up various bits of debris on the floor, wouldn't it?That is what you meant by 'clean up' right DrFox???

Sorry peoples!
I was referring to all service items inclusive of rubbish, glasses, bowls, bottles etc
The topic implied it's a curious thing that an individual may refuse to do this with the possibilty of it being to their own detriment..........

In our airline L1 has is responsible for the front galley and the cockpit - which means checking that they are awake, providing them with food/drink, ... Before the flight we bring them a plastic bag for the rubbish. After the flight they usually drop it off in the galley on their way out. Whatever we bring up turning the flight (trays for the meal, newspapers, ...) we clear away again before top of descent (or earlier - once they have finished).
It's part of the responsibilty of this position - some people don't like it (and try to avoid to do it), others don't mind - that's why we usually get to choose where we want to work
