Help!!What shall I ask at an interview for private flying?
Hi everyone..need your help. I currently work for a commercial airline and I have my first interview for a private flying job in Luton. Am flying over to meet the interviewer shortly but what sort of questions should I ask? And what sort of package should I consider. I only know the bare basics at the moment. It is for a business man on a B727 flying around to Europe and the odd trip to Jeddah. I have no idea what sort of a salary a private airline usually offers so I have no idea what is a good salary for this new role. I live abroad at the moment, so I am currently used to the tax free life, which will a major chunk out of my packet for moving back to the UK. And i believe I lose my travel industry perks if I go privately? ANy feedback would be so appreciated.
many thanks

Some info for you.
I am guessing but expect your private airline is a one aircraft operation, and not the well established 319 etc, operation based in Luton. perhaps it is the 604. Just guessing.
The salary range is vast, from the totally unacceptable to the " fantastic". Dependant on your status, as far as the employer, and your tax base is concerned you might be tax free, or just taxed on the time in UK. So ask where am I based for tax purposes, and if possible ask to remain based off shore, and take the steps to ensure this happens.
Will you be living in Luton, will you be expected to cover the cost yourself. There are many accomodation units available, ranging from hot bunking, to nice rental, either shared houses, flats or whatever. The local papers have plenty, on offer, the university built many halls, and thus the local low price rental market is wide open at present.
Almost certainly you will lose the traditional perks, but I would guess that you also worked rather hard, and had few off periods in nice places, other than back at base.
In this new world you often get long stays in nice places, with a per diem that would normally be (100-150US) acceptable and probably tax free.
Hotels in keeping with your new status.
You might be expected to provide your own private medical insurance.
I have spent all my life in this sector, and can not really provide full answers in a few short paras, there are an umlimited number of permutations.
I assume you were in the first class cabin before, as this will make a big difference at the interview.
Remember the passengers now might be out numbered by the crew.
You will be 100% responsable for everything in the cabin from ordering the catering, to cleaning the cabin. Not forgetting the toilets.
The relationship between the flight deck and cabin crew is in my experience totally different. You share your life, both on and off duty with them.
Duty rotations vary dependant on the operation. You might work Monday-Friday with the typical holidays, to the one month on one month off, with travel paid to from your home. But I suspect you will be expected to be based in luton.
There are as many methods of operation, as there are operations.
Forgive any smelling mistakes, these frenck keyboards, are hell. Back off duty very soon....
Good luck, and welcome to (IMHO) the best employment possible.
If it is not too late then please feel free to PM me.

Above is a good response I used to work for Air Kilroe (Manchester) we flew into Luton a lot and they are well geared up for this kind of work.
At Kilroes we used to fly people with more money than sense and here is my note of caution.I have flown the widest range of people you could imagine from the golfer Colin Montgomery (one of the nicest most down to Earth people in the world). To an ex formula one champion (a real scumbag). The first thing he did was check there was Irn Bru on board and the next was to check the buiscuits were in date ;if there were any finger prints on his Grand Prix mirror it was the end of the world.
I flew royalty (who were a lot less well behaved than most of my punters) and a band who smoked pot on the flight between their NEW and DUB gigs.Half way across they wanted a gang bang!
So what am I saying - It all depends on your boss try and find out what he is like if he is a bastard (and a lot of them are infinitely worse than the shell suit brigade) you won't want to work for him.
Do a search online ; checkout the world Whos Who if he is in there and you know about it they will love it (most have huge egos).Know his personality if you can find anyone who will tell you ;compatibility is important.
They will be very interested in your view on disruption - you are halfway through a candlelit dinner on a day off and ops ring you to say the other girl has gone sick and they need you to go down route for three days.Aircraft leaves inone hour what would be your response
Try and find out how long they expect you to be down route ; you will have a completely different relationship with the flight deck (its more akin to going on holiday with your mates in most cases)
Let me know if I can help further

Well in case anyone is interested, I didn't end up going. Was in London when the guy rang me and said he would ring again later that day to organize the interview, but he didn't call back, so I wasted the day hanging by the phone! Anyway was later advised that it might not be the wisest move to make with this company, so i took heed of that advice and am still searching! So if anyone hears of any private flying jobs in the Uk, please let me know i would be eternally greatful!
