The Cabin Service Director is the chief flight attendant on board each flight (Also known as purser). They usually work in the First Class cabin and are in charge of the entire cabin crew team and handle paper work and other issues that may be brought up during the flight. The CSDs also handle out each cabin crew member's duties for a flight.

The CSD position is senior to the purser position and is paid considerably more. They carry out much the same cabin service as the rest of the crew but have a kind of pseudo-managerial role amongst the cabin crew.

CSD is the silly 'PC' name for the Chief Hostie who is the 'foreman' (foreperson?) in charge of the other 'Flight Attendants' in the cabin.
Airlines keep changing the titles, just like every other organisation these days. Same job, different title. eg Trains used to have a buffet car attendant, now they have a 'Customer Services Manager.' People used to have secretaries, now they have PA's (Personal Assistant). Shops used to have shop assistants, now they have 'Sales Consultants' etc etc
