Post Ghent study on atypical employment - fill in survey

Ten years ago, a crucial University of Ghent study first examined atypical employment among Europe's pilots and cabin crew. The study revealed more than 1 in 6 pilots in Europe are “atypical” employees, i.e., working through a temporary work agency, as self-employed, or on a zero-hour contract with no minimum pay guaranteed (no flight = no pay). The majority of these pilots were working for low-cost airlines. This sparked discussions and policy shifts in European aviation labor. What's changed?

We're inviting pilots and cabin crew in Europe to join a new survey from the University of Ghent to capture current employment conditions.
This will help:
  • Highlight shifts in employment trends, including self-employment and pay-to-fly practices.
  • Assess COVID-19's impact on labor and airline policies.
  • Investigate employment's effect on well-being, safety, and integrity.
  • Identify legislative changes for sustainable, transparent aviation employment.
  • Understand cross-border employment's impact on standards.
Target audience: European pilots and cabin crew

Survey deadline: December 6, 2024

Supported by the European Commission, ECA, ETF, and ENAA, this study will guide policy changes and improve conditions for aviation professionals in Europe.

*****PPRuNe has approved the survey*****
