High as a kite,

Wouldn't you love to do a back to back at BA! You know that you get 139 pounds EXTRA on top of allowances to do them. As you do with a Miami and Vancouver, that is EXTRA to the allowances that are better than Virgin. And lets's not even start on the BA box payments vs Virgins couple of pounds per sector trip pay. You have to admit, it's a bit of a joke!

BA don't NEED trip requests! They don't need to wait 5 years to be senior enough to be able to request a Narita for an extra 180 pounds a month! And you will also note that Virgin recently halved the number of trip requests that you are entitled to and have plans to get rid of them all. Who ever get's their request anyway? There is always an excuse about leave or outbid or didn't fit in the plan.

Please let's not start an argument on the merits of BA vs Virgin as everybody knows Virgin is the BA drop out zone, I should know, I was one of them! No problem admitting it.

And wait, there is now more news. As there weren't enough volunteers for the Lagos core crew on the cheapo leased out Air Atlantic Classic, they are going to allocate people to it! Wow, that should improve morale no end!

Anyway, I have a life, and it's definitely nothing to do with Virgin so I am leaving it there and wish you all well, especially Padder, you are one of many and I can tell you, you won't regret it!

wow you are a bitter bunch. I have flown with VS up front for years, and have come to know more than a few of you, outside the aircraft. The allowances you recieve are derisable I agree, but Virgin is not the career airline BA is. VS is all about having fun in your 20s and finding a rich fella on Upper Class for your 30's. But the atmosphere created by the crew on most flights is wonderful and while saving your allowances is quite often requires, you can have a lot of fun with them in JNB and CPT.

Lagos is a unique flight, and not one anyone wants to do. But it makes money and keeps the whole thing afloat. If your on a the JNB flight on the 24th May, let me know

well now my dreams have just been slashed what else is there in this career to do??! ive been flying with Britannia since last february after dreaming for many years about this job. My general plan in life was to gain experience with a smaller airline and then move on to live my lifelong ambition of flying for Virgin. More recently ive begun to entertain the idea of moving abroad to fly, perhaps for Emirates, or Quantas. i must admit im only 20 and have no idea how id go about trying to do that. Do they both interview in the UK? how old do you have to be? Would i need to be resident in Oz to even get an interview for Quantas? so many questions and not too sure where to go for answers? Can any of you guys help me out?!!!!!!!!!!
Ive been rejected by virgin once before and had planned to try again if i get laid off by Britannia again this winter. I guess its really a single persons lifestyle but can you choose between career or a guy ? ive wanted this since forever so surely some of you guys can tell me some happy success stories?!

Becster...
Had an interview with both Gulf Air & Emirates about 3 years ago & both ints were held in London but to be based in Dubai. I believe the min age for Emirates is 22 but it might have changed now, not sure about Gulf Air. Quantas i believe you have to live in Oz to even be able to apply. If you fancy moving abroad to fly have you tried Quatar Airways, their recruiting at mo, go to flightinternational.com you'll find it their.
Good luck

hey jim and bec..if you're serious about oz and the east, better start to spell them properly...it's QANTAS and QATAR.... and you do need to apply in oz for QF. i think you also need permanent residency.

Qantas & Qatar

Well, one of them is not serious - working for a real cool company already - so no need to waste time on checking spelling, I guess?!

Thumbs down so true

just had my fourth VS interview and more or less told along with the other rejects "to go away and look at yourselves, you dont need me to tell you what your not doing right, maybe you need more customer care experience or more team work skills or just more interview practice" "we're not a recruiting consultancy, we're an airline, therefore do not give feedack".

i currently work for BA as crew and felt patronised by the selectors. on my previous three selection days, i've always been selected for the two on one interview. the previous time i was interviewed, i worked for a charter airline which made a difference - however on this occassion, because i mentioned i worked for BA (Eurofleet) i was put i my place.

the girls (cabin crew) who were selecting, spoke about richard branson as if they'd known him all their lives...richard this...richard that.... is this a professional relationship with cabin crew and the boss?? if the girls who recruit for VS are reading this and happen to catch a BA flight that i am operating on....then take note of my teamwork skills and customer service experience as theses qualifications got me the job at BA in the first place..

maybe virgin could learn a few people handling and respect skills from BA... at least we interview every single candidate that shows an interest in the company. even if people are not selected for the job, we at least give them the chance to find out why (even if it does cost).

i count myself lucky that i was not offered a job at virgin, maybe you will like it but it is not a job, it is more of a fashion statement

as for working for airtours, been there, fantastic airline (destinations), good money and allowances.

hey guys, don't jump on me!! all i was suggesting was that if you apply for a job it does you no favours to spell the name of your potential employer wrongly..i'm certainly not a member of the spelling cops!!

FCNK, well I think you hit the nail right on the head. Virgin is an ODD place. Yes, the interviewers probably knew the boss VERY WELL! YUK, can you imagine? I even know who you are probably talking about and she is even worse to fly with, if you can believe that. They are just taking revenge on BA as they have a BIG chip about the rubbish package at Virgin and the joke that they are seen as.

BA, even Eurofleet, is a more professional and friendly place to work. Everybody rejected by Virgin is a victim of the bitching and backstabbing atmosphere that runs rights through the company.
You probably looked TOO good and you are a threat to the little empire buliders that live in the Virgin Flight Centre.

Believe me, leave them all to it and enjoy working for a proper company with real prospects for a career and a decent salary and pension etc.

Good luck!

Re: Thanks

Dear Dickyflys, Padder etc.

Just a short note to thank you very much for giving me an insight to what it is REALLY like to work for Virgin. From what you both have said, the reality is obviously much different than what I had imagined. Like FCNK, I also had the misfortune to go through an interview process feeling I had done well only to get a rejection letter in the mail with absolutely NO feedback. Having worked for BA, I am aware of how well organised their recruitment is - they inform you of a decision within 5 working days and also offer feedback to unsuccessful applicants. However, with Virgin it is impossible to know where you went wrong and therefore how to improve. :-(

I'm sorry to hear of your bad experiences and wish you al the best for the future.

Take Care & Thanks Alot!
