Qantas crew - VH-NLH

Do any long haul QF crew remember VH-NLH? the leased British Airways 747 they operated from around 2001-2003.

I understand it was notorious for mechanical issues.

For those who might remember it - how different was the BA cabin/galley layout to normal QF aircraft? Did it make it a particularly difficult/unpleasant aircraft to work on?

VH-NLH was known as Never Leave Home. It wasn't a bad bird mechanically. It had a few moments but was generally good. Can't remember the interior though.

I thought it was 'Never Leaves hangar'

I didn't fly on her so can't comment on the config.

There was crew rest seats behind a closed door where the aft-most lavs exist on most 747 configurations. The aft four loos were in front of that in a block.

The galleys were ACE like the ex-BA 763s and completely foreign or awkward to most crew. The seats were BA seats with Qantas fabric (in Y at least).

It was a nasty jet - the QF 744's were much better to work on. 'Never Leaves Hangar' mostly did HKG returns. Agree, very ACE style...

LOL .. Never Leaves hangar ... Love it!!

I have a mate that was a Cabin Director before being offered to go 'Purser or Crew'.. so he went back to Y class as crew... anyway..

He said one of the tuff things was the amount of aircraft configurations you had to remember especially when aircraft are leased and brought in...

He mainly flew 747's but had been flying since before the introductions of 707's.. LOL I think he started flying DC6
