USMC deplore Bassa use of Iwo Jima image

USMC and our own RM are less than impressed:

Subject: IWO JIMA MEMORIAL IS DISRESPECTED

I make a point of usually restricting signals on the RMA Repatriation Network solely for the purpose that was intended. However, there are occasionally exceptions and this is one.

Most of you within the UK Borders will know that the British Airways is facing a major labour strike by air and cabin crew. As part of their promotion for this strike members of the union staged a mock raising a flag that mirrored exactly that of the United States Marines raising their Nation Flag on Iwo Jima.

I personally find this distasteful and have written an email to the unions headquarters.

The email address for the union is [email protected] and their website can be found at http://www.bassa.co.uk

The President of the RMA, has already complained and where our officers go, we follow ………………..below is my email.

Please circulate widely and in particular throughout the USA

Dear Sirs,

Not that you qualify for that title, or if fact any respect, to replicate the United States Marine Corps Statute of the flag being raised on Iwo Jima for selfish political gain is totally despicable.

Many thousands of US Marines died in that battle and countless numbers were maimed for life, so that people like you and I could live in a democracy and enjoy the benefits of free speech.

Whatever support you had, which was little, amongst the general populace has now been debunked and you have all been shown in your true light, lowly scoundrels.

I, and members of my family, are former Royal Marines and the actions of those who partook in this ill conceived act devalues what we believed this country stood for.

In the circumstances I suggest, sirs, that with all speed and diligence you contact the US Marine Corps Detachment at the United States Embassy and offer your most profound, sincere and grovelling apologises for the irreverence shown, because once word of this heinous and tasteless act is circulated, as is happening throughout the USA, your union members will be met with outright hostility. For an insult on the USMC is an insult on their Nation.

Lastly, I wonder if any of you have got the ‘balls’ to reply to me personally. I doubt it, from the way you conduct your business.

More flags of our... uh... fathers

Dear one2go

Thank you for sharing your opinion with the rest of the community.

As I have no opinion on the matter whatsoever, I'd like to contribute to your thread with a couple of illustrations with no further comment.

Totally agree with the sentiments of the OP, unfortunately the idiots that reign in BASSA HQ will IMHO, not give a jot.
