Yes, there are discounts!! Just last month I travelled between LGW-LHR and whilst in the queue to buy my ticket at the National Express LGW desk I noticed an "Aircrew Discount Card" Application form. I read it dubiously expecting it to only be open to BAA pass holders, but when I asked at the desk the chap said it was open to any aircrew with a valid ID card. I showed mine, quickly filled it in, and paid £15 (I think) for a year's discount card and he provided me with one there and then. In typical "me" style, I can't bloody find it now!! But I do remember that it cost me £29 for an open return, and I saved over £15 on the price of the regular ticket, so worth it even for the one trip.

????
Are you sure?
I always bought a coachcard for £5 every year (you need your crew ID to buy it) and then use that when I booked online or at the counter. It still gives the coachcard option now on the route I do LTN-LHR, so I don't see why you wouldn't get a discount LGW-LHR.
This is me after 10 years of commuting on the National Express.

National Express does sometime give discounts. Not on LHR-LGW.
In terms of getting on for free, it is all down to who you get on the day, and how sad your story is. The bus driver is the one who wil make the ultimate decision.
I used the LHR-LGW a couple of times, both for free. I was in uniform, and I had missed the Virgin M25 bus, which is operated by them anyway.

AFAIK there are no special discounts for staff travelling in or out of uniform...
Cheapest option for the regular on the route is to buy a "block" of 10 open tickets - costs £99

OK, now I'm interested - are you saying for certain that using the Coach card will get the price of a LGW-LHR single fare down to less than 9.90 STG ( i.e. the block of ten open tickets price) ? .....
