Geez, I fell asleep in Jetblast and woke up in cabin crew!

Now if only I listened to the safety brief I would know where the bloody exit was!

I would have no problem working for an airline that required me to be at my natural weight. It's not as if they are asking me to stave myself until I look like Vic Beckham. And who here gets up in the morning, measures their hips and says "damn I'll have to down double pancakes today because they're just not big enough". It's not like we all wouldn't want to be slim given the choice.

As a shorty however, I am categorically opposed to height restrictions... Which proves my point that the only people this kind of thing really bothers is the ones who can't meet the requirement. But in all fairness, the ability to be a healthy natural weight is within the grasp of everyone.

Maybe I'm exceedingly vapid, but I do count my personal appearance (skin condition, body weight and shape) to actually be a part of my job. Yes we are safety and service professionals but since when was it a crime to look good as well...

I feel sorry for your "more balanced", colleagues.

Sky gods like yourself are the reason that most FA's look "straight through" pilots.

Interesting posts. May I ask the CCs what type of person they think the (frequent) punters want?

The same thing I look for in my lawyer, accountant, and surgical team: Blonde, big tits, and legs that go for miles.

I figure presentation is far more important than competence.

Speedbird.

Good on the chap you mention above. But in the end who really cares. The qualifications are not relevant for the job he holds.

MBA's, law degrees etc aren't worth the paper they're written on if not being used, and are just decorating someone's office wall at home.

Relevance of Qals

The person Speedbirdhouse mentions does use his Qualifications.
He uses them for the betterment of QF pilots when making submissions to Senate Committees and other relevant government bodies.
He is the most qualified person in Australia to make these submissions.
That is why the AIPA have employed his services.
Just because this person is CC doesnt make him intellectually or professionally one dimensional as some here would suggest.

With the greatest timidity, a Pax who has inadvertently strayed into the galley at 03:00 over the Pacific with five hours to go ...

I was interested in this topic, as I saw it on the BBC. Whilst we may think that India are behind the times, consider how long it took Western carriers to move from the old concept of stewardess to the modern Cabin Crew. Just give India another 25 years or so and they will have changed their views. But then, so will we!

Now, back to the slagging and kicking.
Ouch, that hurt.

I don't think it actually matters that much, but at the end of the day the person responsible for their safety, health and well being is someone who needs to be a diplomat, nurse, child minder, makeup artiste and a whole host of other qualities usually learned through life experiences as well as being capable of dispensing tea/coffee/refreshments under scrutiny.

There are those of us who enjoy what we do whether we are over qualified (which by the way is a subjective perspective) for the job or not and can leave if we want to.

Conversely, I don't think it is quite that easy for some of the drivers.

A couple of my friends are drivers, and both now have a second string to their respective bow - does this mean they are now over qualified to be pilots? Of course not, but they now at least have a choice.

Eclan

So why beat your chest about holding some exotic uni degree you do nothing with?
Because my dear Eclan, you make comments about people who have, according to you no skills/no ambition/and can't live without the money aviation affords. Oh, and there are others who may just know a little more about something important to you but who choose to make use of another skill set only to be ridiculed by the likes of you for being fanciful.

We're all very proud you did a mature-age entry degree
how condescending can you be? How about late starters to flying as a pilot? Do you ridicule them as well?

The old school in QF, for example, might find it hard to beat their current T&Cs in the first few years of their new job
you fail to GET the point that it just isn't about the money.

pilots are generally where they want to be and aimed to be
What? F/A's or CC just happened to fall into a position because of their physical attributes or just plain dumb luck?

oh please spare me.

I think a key point here is "how overweight were the cabin crew?", cos they might have been very very big girls in which case I agree with gorunding them until they have a reasonable weight...
I find it quite unfair but it's true that some pax stil prefer skinny cc than bigger ones.
Being a gay male CC i have seen so many pax who are rude to me and soooo nice to the girls it makes me sick, and I think the same d happen with a skinny girl and a big girl, the bigger one wouldnt get as well treated by the pax. It is sad but if we consider how women are treated in the Middle East (just like animals) I'm not surprised at all about this case.
As some of you said, we r so lucky to live in a country where we are free to look a stone bigger or smaller...

There is a distinct difference between skinny and slim. The former looks vile and unhealthy (think Victoria Beckham), whereas the latter is more pleasing to the eye. I personally am sick of this culture of worshipping skinny, sad, talentless 'celebrities', or living in a world where losing weight is seen as some kind of achievement, where having a baby then getting back into a pair of jeans that would fit a small child is seen as the holy sodding grail!
Where are the real models for young girls these days?
Ok, rant over. Back to the topic.....

I'm sure there are crew with all sorts of qualifications. What surprises me is not their qualification but that they are still unable or unwilling to leave the cabin crew world
This is what some here are trying to explain to you Eclan.....You don't understand why someone would want to be Cabin Crew and that is your problem.

Personally, I can not understand why anyone would want to sit in a room the size of a wardrobe on their backside for hours....in the end it does not matter what qualifications you have if you are happy doing your job....

If a pilot has just upgraded his/her qualifications should they leave and do something else?
I suppose it does but pilots are generally where they want to be and aimed to be for many years so what's your point?
The point you cannot understand is that a pilot commented that he thought Cabin Crew have no other qualifications.....and then it was pointed out that equally neither do a lot of pilots....DUOHH

Eclan, I sincerely hope that your ability to appraise a situation especially in your job is better than you have indictated here...

post from eclan "and one of them had an amazingly ample cleavage in the middle of her back." i must say that this would have a number of advantages, the least being that it would take the focus off her huge @r4*. one disadvantage i won't go into... 'scuse the pun.

Ground'em

I think we should adopt the attitude here in the UK. If i'm a pax, if i'm going on holiday, the last thing i wanna see giving/handing to me my drinks is some big, sweating, struggling to walk up and down the aisle, trying to smile with all her/his 3 chins at once CC.... No Sir!

There's a difference between a bit chubby, curved, wich let's face it most men like, and plain FAT!!!

Get the FAT ones out! Bring back the glamour!!!
