Why would you want to be working like an airline like that?

You get a couple of spots..you get 'cosmetic leave?' What a load of tosh.

I'm certainly not overweight (bmi of 21, weigh nine stone, 5'6, and a size 10) but this would probs be too fat for their standards. If anyone told me to lose weight I would punch them.

Thank God I live in a country where there are anti discrimination laws.

Well if it is just a 'health' issue, are they also grounding cabin crew who smoke?

Just as likely as overweight people (if not more so) to get health problems. I don't just mean cancer/heart problems in the long term, but chest trouble/shortage of breath in the short term.

I heard on the radio today it was about a crew member who was 5'2 and 9 stone being the max weight... I'm not saying I agree by any means, but their restrictions aren't THAT excessive!!

Crank, did you inform the old thing of the reason why it's called a personal reading light, so it doesn't bother the other people?
Eclan,If you really think that the overhead reading light does not affect other pax then you have never flown Y/C.
The number of times I have had to deal with potential fights because someone who doesn't care about anyone else is reading all night when the person either side of them is trying to sleep is unbelievable.
Do you really think cabin crew care if you are reading?
I'll let you in on a secret Eclan and that is the only thing we care about is "NO PROBLEMS BETWEEN PAX'.
I have seen hundreds if not thousands of cranks and Eclans who think the aircraft is their own personal transport and everyone else should fit in with them.
If it's all quiet on the western front during the night we could not be happier.
The rest of cranks post about cabin crew has about as much credibility as a politician during an election.
If crank was in Y/C it seems to me as though he is still spitting the dummy because he wasn't upgraded.
Go where? They have no other quals and are too old to start over.
And that doesn't apply to pilots?
Have you heard the phrase 'people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones'
Do you know the smallest book in the world. It's called 'successful business's run by pilots'
Can't see the attraction, myself, for a normal guy to work a job dominated by women and raving, gay men but I guess it takes all sorts.
That's the problem with some of you guys because you can't think outside of a checklist. If it's not written down for you you don't think of it.
If the rest of the crew are women or gay then who does that leave to make a move on the good sorts in the cabin. It's a captive audience boys and you guys are stuck behind the cockpit door and for us straight guys it's been a smorgasbord for years.Welcome to reality

CC Qals

There are more tertiary educated CC than there are pilots with tertiary Qals.
Law degrees
Commerce degrees
MBAs
There is a flight attendant representing pilots at senate level in Australia.
This flight attendant is also a pilot with 15000 hours under his belt.
Many of us have done other things apart from being a crew member
Most pilots have been...well ahh...pilots...limited life skills and experience.
Oh ...sorry..."Fatties" is the pilots preferred college of knowledge.
If its not learnt at "Fatties"its not worth learning.
If you are worried about gay men then perhaps you should find out about the "G21" club that Exists amongst Qantas pilots.
The membership is growing just like most of your waistlines
Most of you would do well to have a colonoscopy before its too late.

Err, pilot's are trained to fly aircraft not run businesses...
There are more tertiary educated CC than there are pilots with tertiary Qals.
Who cares unless it has some relevance to the operation like hospitality, aircraft safety, or perhaps pshycology...

The trouble with making a move with anyone in the cabin they are usually moving on somewhere else too hard! I prefer slip ports! Pilots may be "stuck" behind a cockpit door, where I love it by the way!, but in HKG and SIN, BA, lufthansa, emirates girls are a revolving smorgasboard! hmm!! I feel hungry!

There are more tertiary educated CC than there are pilots with tertiary Qals.
You sound like a Singaporean! La? We really need to see what you are on paper LA? even though you cant do anything in the real world!

But seriously Flight attendants do their job and Pilots do theirs, why the hell are people arguing? Get over it, damn I know I have more useful things to do, like building relations with flight atendants, mainly emirates though hehe

So why don't they use them then, and earn big money instead of serving tea and coffee to the great unwashed!

Yes, I make no apologies for my year ten education and on the odd occasion do make some spelling mistakes, usually from haste rather than an inability to spell the word!

Of course I might be dyslexic and you my very well be poking fun at my disability!

Now is that your entire contribution to the debate?

Don't make me get my handbag...

Because Autobrakes there is more to life than $ - lord knows we can't be in anything aviation for just that, are you?!

I guess I'm just plain lucky - I get to do what I studied for part-time and get to really enjoy what I do with the 'great unwashed' part-time as well - makes for a very happy me.

Thats another thing about many pilots. They cannot understand that others are not motivated by money alone and probably explains about the stories about pilots being tight.

So i guess next, to solve the controversy the DCGA will suggest marrying off all the fat lasses, to all the expat pilots they are kicking out next year. Two birds, one stone

Law degrees, commerce degrees and MBA's aren't worth the paper they're written on if applying to be a flight attendant. So who gives a rats what qualifications you've got. It's all about the current job you hold.

I've got 2 degrees and a post graduate degree, but they mean bugger all in the Aviation industry!

So....

We have fat CC
We have fat pilots
We have gay CC
We have gay pilots
We have people who have money as their first priority
We have people who do not have money as their first priority
We have tertiary educated CC
We have tertiary educated pilots
We have CC who have PPL and ATPL
Seems to me we have a lot in common so why all continual bitching and slinging off at one another?
Who cares if you are fat, thin, educated, not educated, cute or ugly?
As long as you do your job well and enjoy it
