Short of Crew?

hi everyone,
i'm currently working for an airline in asia and in the past 6 months, most of our flights were running short of at least one crew. with the company doing a very gd business, which means the flight are mostly 90%-100% full. i experienced a few times that there were only three operating crew in economy section for around 200 passenger on board!!!
i just wonder if it's a trend in other airline as well?
if the same thing happens to you, do u get extra compensation?

In European airlines where you have union agreements, working one down or reduce crew compliments, you achieve a premium payment for the extra workload. The stronger the union the better the payment.
