XL change to May lgw-sfb flight?

Hello,

I'm hoping XL crew might be able to throw some light on an xl flight change. I have read on a travel forum that XL have changed a direct flight from lgw-sfb from a 2 class direct flight to an all economy, non direct flight (stopping in Newfoundland to refuel) because of a replacement plane. Can anyone tell me if this is a one off situation or is it likely to become common practice throughout the summer. People who have booked XLOne seats have been told a week and a half before flying that XLOne is not available so will have to travel in economy with a stop. I have booked XLone direct flights for our family from lgw-sfb in August and am concerned that this problem might continue into the summer. Is it a case of maintenance or is there more to it? You never know whether a company is being straight with you for fear of cancellations?

Thankyou

This flight is to be operated on a 767-200 until the mid to end of May when a Spanish A330 on wet lease comes, then it will be operated on a XL France A330 June time ish.
The 762 has to tech stop for fuel in Halifax (Nova-Scotia) pax will remain onboard.
The A330's have i believe XL One so by August you should be ok.

Hope this helps.

holyflurkingschmitt,

Out of interest, why does the B762 stop off? Doesn't El Al operate Tel Aviv - Miami non-stop with B762s, so surely XLA can make LGW-SFB non-stop.

The reason is that EL AL's B762s operate in a two class scheduled service configuration with around 220 seats, whereas the XLA 762 operates in an all economy configuration with considerably more (290). Therefore same type, but with more weight on board = less range.

That information is incorrect. From about the 22nd XL will operate the LGW-SFB sector back on aircraft G-VKNG as per normal as it will have returned from maintainence in AUH.

The use of G-BOPB was enforced due to a delay in getting G-VKNG into maintainence. I am operating on the 300 on the 23rd. The Iberworld/XLF airbus is operating services from MAN to SFB

When G-BOPB was with Britannia it operated non stop to SFB without difficulty in an all tourist config. Perhaps XL has a reduced declared MTOW to reduce charges.
