Actually I totally agree with you there Sebby

Other Airlines overseas have done it, and on that basis alone Air NZ should not be slammed for it.

This is something that is relatively new to NZ however and in itself is rather remarkable in that it is our national carrier who seems to pride itself in being the "real New Zealand"

Cheers man.

Yes I think it says it all though in the article in the herald today where fyfe says that the chinese based crew are the most engaged and happy members of the company. However 54 out of 65 signed a complaint letter to be sent to the herald. What planet is he on? Bring back ralph norriss to sort out this mess. He was a nice guy and really on to it.

I much preferred Rob Fyfe's earlier statement, where he explained that the Chinese cabincrew were not AirNZ employees, but were employed by a separate Chinese company that then contracted its services out to AirNZ. In other words, it was like engaging a temping agency.

That all makes perfect sense.

But the real point is this: Why is AirNZ going to 'temping agencies' for cabincrew? The cabincrew, love them or loathe them, are an integral part of every airline. Since WWII, a cabincrew position in AirNZ/TEAL has been regarded as a good, long-term, secure position - and the airline has always been reciprocated, with very dedicated service.

Are not Air NZ employees ? Seperate Chinese Company ?

Thats remarkable.

I know that NZ Immigration are very interested in AIR NZ claiming that they are not Air NZ crew.

The company was listed on the Visa Applications as their employer, and had a chinese company applied for NZ work visa's for chinese crew employed by a chinese company based in shanghai, no Visa's would have been granted.

They are trying to do damage control and every time they open their mouths simply shoot themselves in the other foot.

Not the kiwi way

The best thing the airline could do would be to go under and for a good caring honest kiwi airline to start up again from scratch. There is nothing kiwi about this airline. We don't need a CEO on millions of dollars and the rest on 3rd world pay and conditions and all the kiwi jobs taken away by foreign nationals. Shame on you air nz. This is not the kiwi way.
There was an article in the herald today that said all the staff had been phoned and told not to talk to the media or passengers. LOL!!!!!! I think fyfe thinks this is communist china. In case he doesn't realise this is nz and we can say and do what the hell we like!!!!!!! I don't have the works to express my utter disbelief!!!

I dont know if you are Cabin Crew NZUniformlover but if you check you CEA it will have a section that covers confidentiality and speaking to the media. Even using this forum is a serious breach of your terms and conditions of employment, no matter what country you live in.

Sebby sorry but get real ..... the same could be said of basically every post on this site.... that is what the site was started for... so by your thinking none of us should be posting anything on here cause the reality is its all probably braeches opf something to do with Employment Contracts..... curious which division of management you work in with an attitude like that.

Yes but we (most) act anonymously here. My point was if you went to the media and made a statement with your name attached you would be having some serious tea and bickies!

Okay .... sorry point taken . My post was solely in response to comments made on here. As you say there is the perceived safety net of perceived anonimity.

I wouldn't get too worried, Sebby. This forum is not "the media". And there's nothing in this thread to give PPrune any worries about a defamation action, so there's no chance of them being forced to 'out' someone. Just have a look around at what the pilots say under the cloak of anonymity - and they're getting paid three times as much.

So let AirNZ have it. In the good old days, AirNZ cabincrew would have been sent to HK on 3 month postings. No temps allowed at the coalface then.

Totally agree with you there in what was a well constructed, mature post.

Im not worried about anything I say on this forum, what dissappoints me is obviously immature people who probably arent flight attendants who over comment on a subject that has little to do with them. Going to the media is a very serious action for an airline employee and encouraging people to do so is right next to it. I understand the frustration that is circulating at the moment but there are the right ways and the wrong ways to voice your concern over them, the company may be deceiving you but rising above that is of the utmost to get your point accross.

Perhaps if NZ is employing people like one that have posted on this topic then that is why they have to look offshore to hire people. Clealry they have already scraped the barrel here in New Zealand

Agree with some of your points sebby but they are paying them a base salary of a little over $6k per annum. Thats the ONLY reason they have gone offshore no matter how they wish to dress it up now their ugly secret has hit the media

sebby must be management .Poor darling has been brain washed. At least you make sense joe fly guy and thanks for your comments. I've actually left this industry as of last week and are currently writing my first novel. Nothing about the corporate or airline world. Wish me luck.

I see they were before a Select Committee yesterday.

Fyfe is still asserting that the Shanghai crew cost them $46k a year.... What ? ... From a base salary of $6000..... is he for real ???

At least they now own up to the fact they are paying the crew direct. So how do they figure these poor buggers are not employed by Air NZ if they conducted all the interviews, they undertook the training, they arranged the NZ work Visa's with AirNZ listed as employer, and they pay their wages directly, but they are employed by someone else....... TUI'S ANYONE.

And also asserts that they pay the going rate in country of employment, the same as they do in Los Angeles and London...... Has this guy lost the plot. They HAVE NO CREW IN LOS ANGELES and the London crew are rather poorly paid which is why they have a bit of a problem with retention there.

Is he really that out of touch and ill informed. As CEO he should have a better grip of what his airline is doing I think.

If they think the Shanghai albatross is going to go away by lying they are sadly mistaken.
