Crew in Australia - Experienced FA's

Hi, i am new to the forum but was interested to see if there is any crew out there who have left their fist FA job and then found it difficult to get another Job?
Just asking as I recently returned from working in the middle east to australia, and have been to two recruitment days for two australian airlines, and get so far and then get told 'unsuccesful' (apply again in 6 months - 12 months)...I would've thought international flying experience would be a plus on a CV but obviously not?! seems it would be easier to get a job back over there than in my own country!
look fwd to hearing from anyone with any details!
thanks.

I can't really speak for Australia but a lot of airlines in the UK seem to be favouring those who DON'T have flying experience, or at least don't rely on the experience to get them through the interviews. If you search most threads here, experienced people have been knocked back by all sorts of airlines like Zoom, Silverjet, QFUK, NZUK, Virgin Atlantic. Even BA are knocking back some people with experience. I think the logic behind it is that there is less to de-program during the training and once online. There is nothing worse than flying with someone who goes on 'at blah blah airline we did this, at blah blah airlines we did that'. Not saying that YOU would do this but I am thinking this could be part of their logic.

It seems rather strange - there is currently demand for experienced flyers in Australia - I know all 3 majors have a strong interest in recruiting experienced flyers as they are easier to promote quickly - JQI is even recruiting experienced flyers as direct entry Cabin Managers & CSM's.

I'd look at your interview skills - for example previous flyers I've interviewed in the past (especially from EK) tend to think they'll get the job just because they've flown before - they also need to demostrate the behaviours the airline desires to be competitive at scoring time.

See if you can find someone with interviewing experience to give you some coaching regarding group & behavioural interviews - it may help on your next application.

Keep applying though - I can't imagine there's an airline in Aus who wouldn't want a experienced flyer who has a good name if they come acorss well in the interview.

Good luck!
