well folks out there, i'd like to ask for your opinions on this - why is it that expats come to the gulf region and then bagg the hell out of it, if its not bagging the local people, its the religion or the job they take on. why don't they just stay home!!!

Ex sim guy,
You have a valid point, but the crew that bagg the gulf, they mean it but can not let go of the lifestyle, they realize this is the only thing they can do?
By the way XTC , you sound like a switched on crew great topic.
Enjoy it or shut up and go home.

I did 9 glorious years in Dubai, and always said "the only will get rid of me is to fire my ass"
Well fire my ass they they did ( technically they asked me to resign which amount's to the same thing really ) and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
It changes your whole perception on life and the value of everything around you.
When you go the the ME you have 2 options, 1) Do a fixed term and save or 2) go for the unlimited term and live life to the max as I did, relying on your EOSB to boost your saving's.
You either love it or hate it, but one thing is guaranteed, it is very difficult to leave once you get into the lifestyle it offers.
In reality "The Real World" has much more going for it than "LegoLand" does; you just have to know how to recognise and seize the opportunities as they present them.
I loved Dubai when I was there, but appreciate reality much more now that I'm living it.
Whooaahh!!!

well folks
going by the comments received so far its good to see that some expats are having a good time out here, and i hope that i get more comments in that favour...
the reason i started this topic was to understand one thing, if people are not happy here, why don't they go home or go somewhere that they will be happy, its interesting to know, why torture yourself...
i have friends that r not happy here and they stay on and lead miserable lives....
it just don't figure...
keep your opinions rolling in people, i'd like to hear both sides of the story..

I have always found that if people are that unhappy then they DO go home. Why would anyone stay in a country that they didn't like. If they do stay and continue to hate it, then they only have themselves to blame. I did a few years in the Gulf. I enjoyed it most of the time, but as soon as the fun wore off and my friends left, I did too and now I couldn't be happier.

it would be nice to know how people who r originally from this region (gulf) perceive expats and give us their opinions on the attitudes of others,,
so drop us a line and tell us what u think and maybe we can all have a better understanding toward each other...

In USA at the moment but can't wait to get back - cost of living is too damned expensive here. Back home I get my smokes for a buck twenty a pach and beer and wine is not taxed! Gulf, I'm heading back
