Unhappy Virgin Application

Please help. My sister-in-law has just received an application for junior cabin crew. We have a few questions:

1. What flights operate out of Manchester?
2. ditto Heathrow?
3. What is the starting salary?
4. How much flight pay can you expect to earn?
5. What do they like to see in the additional and general information sections of the form?
6. How many crew are they looking for and for what bases?
7. The ad was in the Shropshire Star a few weeks ago but she has thrown the paper away. The form asks for the reference code from the ad. Does anyone know it?
8. Are there any flights out of Birmingham?

All help appreciated. Many thanks.

1: MCO (Orlando) only.
2: Hong Kong, Cape Town/Joburg, JFK, Japan, Beijing, Athens, Los Angeles, San Francisco...not sure about where the Carribbean flights go from or the Boston/Washington/Chicago and Las Vegas but would guess they're mostly ex-LHR too.
3: friend was on about £7500 basic I recall
4: enough to cover your costs when away from base but not much more.
5: make something up which sounds good, so long as sis-in-law remembers what she wrote at interview ;-)
6: Lots of crew needed - bases dunno, but a lot are split based LGW/LHR
7: no idea - call the paper?
8: only if they get lost/go tech!!

VS will work the crews hard and a lot of them leave after a coupla years due to burn-out, but if she can hang in there the benefits certainly make up for the low basic/flight pay I think. And with the large expansion they have inline the chances of promo are higher than normal.

Hope not too late with the answers???

1. Man - Orlando (seasonal) Virgin Atlantic.
Virgin Sun operates the usual bucket and
spade destinations year round.

2. Chicago, Washington, LA, Tokyo (Narita),
New York (JFK and Newark), Athens,
Hong Kong, Capetown, Jo'burg and Shaghai (not Beijing as stated by Swizzle Stick.)
Out of LGW - Miami, Orlando, New York (Newark only), Boston, Athens ( and several Virgin Sun destinations.)

3. Sorry no idea on the starting salary - It's not much but if you want to travel for a bit it's well worth it plus staff travel is by far the best offered.

4. ???

5. Say how much you want to work for Virgin blah blah blah...... They love that!!

6. Always looking for crew due high turnover of staff.

7. No idea but if you look log on to Virgins website, you can apply on-line www.virgin-atlantic.com/jobs

8. Bloody hope not!!!

Good Luck

Just a few facts

VAA do not pay flight allowance, we are issued with allowances on arrival downroute, in local currencey(except Shanghai )
E.g.
On East coast US 1 nighters on average $127

SFO $220ish 2 nights downroute
LAX $207ish 2 nights downroute

The big earners are HKG or NRT.

Initially you would fly only out of LHR or LGW. AT which time you will probably only operate on 747-200and400. A340 training is usually rostered a few months after you have been on line.

The chance to fly out of Manchester is only availabbe after 6 months. It is based on seniority and tends to be very, very popular!!!

As far as 'Burnout', I don't think so. Most people don't join as a long term career. They tend to use it as an interim for something else. Also JNR rosters tend not to be that heavy any of the time, this cannot be said of the ranks of Purser or IFS though.

As far as interviews, make sure they know you have a positive upbeat personality-SOH essential!!!!!!

Personally I've been at VAA for 6yrs, made loads of good friends, been to some of the most beautiful places on the earth
and been paid for it.

Good luck to your Sister in law and hopefully I will see her out on line!!!!!!
