A friend of mine was working out there last year. She said that it was very difficult with the local culture, there is a lot of nationailities there.. .. .It is supposed to be a very up and coming city so it may be a good place to be based. They are increasing their schedules all the time.

worked with them for a couple of years, which on hindsight was not the best career decision ever made. I cannot comment on what the airline is like to fly for now as it is a number of years since i left however, if past experience is anything to go by, i would say to you to avoid them at all costs. Doha is a great place to live and although slightly backwards i relation to the UK, offers sun, sand and plenty of fun. The airline is expanding its routes and fleets of aircraft this year, which means that there will possibly be great prospects for those onboard. If you can put up with long hours, terrible rostas, low pay and a management that can only be described as de-motivational, i would say go ahead. Otherwise as i said earlier, i would give it a very wide berth.

Well,I will agree with flygirl28. I left Qatar last summer. The airline is full of useless regulations; for example that you are not allowed to be seen holding your mobile in public, even if you're walking down the street. Many people got demoted because of that actually! Also long flights, minimum rest most of the time and little money are some of the minuses of the airline. The reason though why I left Doha was because I was attacked on the street twice. If you don't wear their lockal costume, you are treated by lockals in a really disrespectful manner. That's the reason why in the compounds where female cabin crew live, there's security on a 24 hour basis that doesn't allow visits after 10 pm till 7 am, no matter who visits you and the compounds are not all toogether in an area; they're in the city amongst the lockals. So, even if you want to go to the super market you have to blend amongst them. My personal opinion is that it's not worth it since no money can pay what I went through there.

I just want to express my symphaty to MAY. I lived in a similar place for a year and it was really depressing (there I found the man I later married though!). Thankfully the money was great and we saved quite a lot for my other half to do all his courses and trips.. .. .NickMelb, if you have an option in the Middle East, I hope for you it will be with Emirates. Dubai is safe, full of expats and probabily the best location in the area for fun and friends. I would be reluctant to return to any country where I could'nt buy bacon in the supermarket and needed a liquor licence to drink at home!! . .. .Cheers,. .. .Mrs. FloatJockey. .---------------------------------------------. .Liquor licence allowance: 2 l. spirits/wine per month and 30 cans of beer . .Pork licence allowance: 40 kgs per month . . . . [ 13 March 2002, 00:54: Message edited by: FloatJockey ]

Thumbs down

Hi Flygirl hows the flying promise will write to you very soon.. .. .As for Qatar Airways or as we knew Crap Air would advise say well clear did my time their did enjoy it but bad rosters, illegal flying as was the norm. Not many western crew survive that long with them. Doha is a great place to live was their a long time very up and coming but as for the airline what more can I say, even the last Cabin Crew Manager jumped ship.. .. .If I was you would blink and miss it and try EK they are a great company to work for.\
