Your crewing dept?

I work for for a crewing dept in the U.k and was just curious as to what you all think about your crewing depts...? I personally think we get far too much stick for just doing our jobs.. remember when the phone goes at 0200l to call you in for a TFS it's not because we want to it's actually because another crew member has usually gone sick! That is not a dig at crew by the way.

The girlies in our crewing dept are great, luvly jubly. But there isn't enough of em at present, well until the new ones join which shouldn't be too long now. Yep it's always crewing that get it in the neck but then that's the nature of the job. I've had 19yrs in this business, mostly ops + crewing and I love it. I think most crewing bods would agree that there aren't many jobs like it.

Our crewing/ops dept were mostly good until they were under stress, the they could get really nasty. I was abused more than once for not agreeing to work when they called me up on my day off, and they even got mgmt to ring me up as well!! I suppose it all depends on what sort of company that you work for. All the FAs that I know dont answer their telephones on their day off, that says it all!

Two crew I can't believe that they get management to phone you on days off for not agreeing to work!! As far as were concerned
your days of are 'your' days off and no one can force you to work them! imagine calling a MON/FRI worker on a weekend and telling them they had to work!.,.. they'd tell you to f*** off. Why should there be different rules for fd/fa ? I'd like to know which company you work for...

The mgmt didn't actually ring me on the day (I think it was a Saturday though). But rang a couple of days later to suggest that if I wasn't willing to work when called on a day off then they might have to look at replacing me with a casual at that base. I work for an Australian company but have resigned this week 
There was a very limited number of FAs at my base and unfortunately there was a tendancy for some to have sickies so I can understand ops problems, it wasn't their fault there should have been more FAs to cover. However they could ask nicely (and when they did I usually did agree to work) and understand that sometimes I just didn't want to! The FD crew are a bit different, they tend not to have as many sickies (sad but true)and they also get a big bonus in the pay for working a day off.

We all reralize that crewing dptmts as a rule are not nasty on purpose. But it does make a big difference being asked nicely, or being barked at!
Something our crewing often gets wrong, is telling us where we'll actually be spending our days in between flying. They qoute the end of the flight instead of the slip station. Which is why a colleague just spent a week in snowy Sapporo with a suitcase full of clothes for sunny Singapore.
Our crewing is also responsible for calling the home front when we're delayed getting back. They hardly ever get it right, which is pretty upsetting.
So in answer to your question; ask me nicely and give me the correct info. Then we'll get along just fine!
