Smile On Board Sales

What kind of sales hardware do any of you use to sell merchandise in the cabin?

I'm researching to try and get my airline to dump the paper stock/bar count method which is hairpulling madness in the cabin. We need to be able to keep track of stock sold - everything from soft drink to chips and cookies.

Any ideas or suggestions most appreciated.

Jumped, not sure this one would do all you require, since we only sell the "tax free goods" while the booze and headphones are includud in the ticket price, but we use a handheld computer called the Salesmate.. .It's a nifty little apparatus that made our life a lot easier on board by calculating the price of the article in all currencies we accept so people can pay for one item in as many different shekels as they like, plus it scans creditcards and prints receipts. It also works as a regular calculator/currency converser. . .At base it gets plugged into the main computer and that way allows the comp to keep track of stock.. .Mail me at [email protected] if you want to, I can see if if I can ferret out the mail addy for the relevant person in my comp for you.

Same as Flaps, we have a machine that does all the calculations, keeps record, takes credit cards etc. There is a company taking care of it because they are very expensive.

If you have to count how many soft drinks are consumed, it's time to nail the doors shut on your airline, or get rid of your greedy mental midgets in management.

I have quite a lot of experience with the computer systems from an airline and caterers side. Please mail me if you need any help. I will need to know your airline and the catering / in flight retail company at your base station.
