Airtours Tragedy
I am sure that all my fellow ATC colleagues throughout the country would like to join me in offering our condolences and sympathy to all the relatives, friends, and colleagues of the Airtours crew who tragically died in the plane crash at Glasgow yesterday. Of course the same sentiments are also offered to the crew who were flying the aircraft, one of whom I knew personally. As I also know several Airtours staff based at Glasgow, there is unfortunately a chance that I might get further bad news as events unfold.
For any Airtours people reading, I know something of what you must be feeling. I am quite numb.
May they all rest in peace.

A light aircraft carrying a full Airtours crew from Glasgow to pick up a W leg at Aberdeen crashed on take off. There were 11 on board and 8 have been killed. The others are seriously injured.
More information either on PPRuNe at http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/For...ML/004350.html
or from the BBC Scotland news at http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/...000/437908.stm
The Airtours people I know were not on board, although one was rostered to be but couldn't make it as their flight the previous night was in late and duty times did not permit them going. That is actually of no consolation since it is still a tragedy for the industry and the Glasgow aviation scene.

As Cabinboy said, most of 'Down Under' was probably unaware of this tragic accident till the 6 o'clock news this evening, 24 hours after the accident, although I did read reports this morning on PPRUNE. Having passed on the news at work this afternoon, we are all deeply saddened by the news. I am sure all at Ansett Australia, Qantas and other airlines in Australia, would like to pass on our condolences to family, friends and colleagues.

A tragedy like this is always sad especially when it hits closer to home than we like to think might happen. As above on behalf of myself and most of my colleagues I wish to convey to the families and friends of the deceased all the heartfelt condolensces. May God bless the victims of this terrible day and may He also comfort those in need of it. Our thoughts are with you.
