Cabin Luggage with QF
Some advice please.
Booked with QF dep CDG later this century.
My prob is I will have a 15" laptop weighing 5kg, accesories 3kg, Laptop carrybag 2kg.
What is the best way to approach QF (French?)check-in staff with this monster (weight wise)? to get in to the cabin with me, the volume is quite small.... more like a small rucksack with a handle.
I'm flying Zoo class so I know my allowance is only 20kg in total.
This is my 1st flt with QF.
As you can imagine I'd not be too keen to put £3000 worth of toys in the hold.
Any suggestions welcome.
BTW how much would unacompanied luggage costs be (roughly) to Sinney from Paris (for main baggage)?
regards,
Staines

G'day CC.
It's the nice folks at check in I'm concerned about.
Strewth.... they could be FRENCH! I dunno! and they might even go by the SOPs.
If they're Aussies I might not have a problem, but Froggies, I err, dunno, I've lived with French wimin and they can be a bit, let's say, tres difficult.
Thanks for responding.

Staines,
The 20 Kilo limit applies to your hold baggage. Although there is ostensibly a weight limit for incabin bags on QF, In 7 years of lifting the damn things, I can assure you that they can't possibly EVER exclude them based on weight, well not on any flight I've ever worked on
If your laptop bag fits into the allowable dimensions, you shouldn't have any trouble.
cheers!
Do us a favour though? Put it in the locker yourself...please?...

Am I the only person who's read all the accident reports about severe passenger injuries due to excessive mass in overhead lockers during severe turbulence or accident.
Personally I take enough reading matter for the flight and the rest goes in the hold - get a decent suitcase with a decent lock on it and accept the wait at the end.
Then again, spending my life working in flight safety assessments may give me an unrealistic view of how important it is to prevent denting a laptop.
