At what age did you start flying as CC?
Hi there,
I am approaching 32 in October. In some countries, such as Spain, airlines dont take people over 30. I know that in UK that is different.
Has anyone of you started into flying being over 30? Were you the eldest in your training class?
I know age shouldnt be an issue, specailly know after special European Union anti age discrimination rules have taken effect.

oldest?
When we were BA/BAcitiexpress at BHX we took on several older ladies and gents. We had a mother ( late 40's?) and daughter ( 18ish) on the same new entrant course, and there are a couple of ladies who are grandmothers in the fleet who joined us late in life. Anyone beat that? Our last Performance Manager, who left just before flybe took over the business was still flying at 59, and we had several who left in the recent past on hitting 60. Law has changed now, I have friends who tell me that there are several over 60 year olds flying for BA!

32 or 33 in some airlines are not too old..
i am over 33, just join another airlines. i was with previous airlines for more than 13 years.
Try emirates or some airlines in middle east.
Never too late for anything. you never try, you never know.
good luck

I was 23 when i first started flying, mixed age group on my course.
Im now 30, i used to always be one of the oldest crew on the flight, however they have now taken on loads of 'mature' crew....so i have now done a few flights were i have been the YOUNGEST....which i love!!!
I much prefer flying with older crew as they dont mind a bit of hard graft!!

I was 24 when I started, but then joined a biggie when I was 35, so had to do the starting course all over again. We were two 35 yo on the course, and the other one was at her first experience as a CC.

I was 27 when I started flying for easyjet. The youngest person on my training course was 19, the oldest 52...and everything in between...
Now, two years later, there is still a great mix of all age groups working for easyjet. New starters can be 18...or grandmothers/fathers who felt like a change in their life. I truly believe it's one of the few jobs were your starting age doesn't matter....at least in the UK. And like you mentioned, it shouldn't anywhere in Europe. Early 30 is definitely not an issue, I would assume you might even still make it into Emirates if you've got what they are looking for....but that might be pushing your luck...;-)

I was 26, but most people (90%) in my initial were under 25.
At virgin they only removed the upper age limit when the laws changed a few years ago. Thank God! Young energetic individuals need to be balanced out by older, sensible crew with life experience. I have come across several new crew at virgin who are in their late 40īs. But at the end of the day, age is just a small factor. Itīs all about who you are as a person.

Diverse Ages
I work in Australia and i started when i was 25 and people in my ground school were aged between 10 as the youngest and the eldest was 45 so here in Australia it doesnt matter what age you are. There are age discrimination laws here. So company's have to be very careful.
Hope this helps

Cherrie - are you SURE you had a 10 year old in yr ground school?!?! I thought at 10 they would lack the life experience to deal with the "problems" we put up with up there!
I started flying at 22. I'm now 30 and still love it as much as the day I started.

I remember it took me a long time to get over the shock of discovering that one of my crew was born after I started flying.
On my last trip all but 4 of 14 were born after I started flying.
I knew it was time to go !!

Haha!!
I remember being shocked, too, when I had surgery, and the entire team, including the anaethetist, were younger than me!
It was a realisation that I had reached an age where I could have, by this point, qualified and/or specialised in ANY occupation...
