If you're near LHR, try just swinging past uniform stores and giving it a bash. They'll often try and fit you in if they can. The term "uniform fitting" is a bit misleading. It's more like when you go in to a highstreet store, tell them your sizes, go to a dressing room to try them on and then change them if they don't fit. It takes about an hour - maybe a tad more - but the involvement of the BA staff there is minimal. They just hand you stuff.

So again, if you're nearby and have time to spare, just nip past.

You are hoping, if you want worldwide heathrow on a permanent basis. At the very best you'd be offered it on a six month basis with the offer of a single fleet LGW offered at the end of it. Your best bet is eurofleet LHR then put your name on the transfer list . If you get in before November this year you will be able to put your name on the tranfer list and might make it to worldwide within 2 1/2 - 3 years if thats what you want.

RE Luggage, you're right in that BA don't give us suitcases any more.

The uniform guidelines dictate that we should have a navy blue or black suitcase (recommended hard-shell) and a similar coloured wheelie bag for carry-on luggage.

We're also told we're not allowed stickers on the cases.

Of course, people do put stickers on their bags and some people even use bags of questionable colour.

You'll get a 10% discount at Rolling Luggage in the terminals for cases, or you can use Express Baggage on Bath Road for cheap check-in bags.

TravelPro luggage...

AMS-LHR,

I would highly recommend Travelpro luggage Mate for when you get flying.I've been using their stuff for the last 14yrs & never had a problem.

Travelpro luggage tends to be a little bit more pricey & less widely available than Samsonite or Delsey etc but,it's much more hard wearing & durable in my opinion.

Almost all of their wheelie bags are full of handy pockets & best of all a folding shirt hangar so you can iron your work shirts at home before your trip, then they are kept nice in your wheelie until you need them downroute.

Hope this help!

Wink AMS

You will get a roster for your last week of the month dont worry. Get that bidding done brfore around the 9/10th of Sept to make sure you get some good stuff in the last week of Sept as thet is when the bidding window closes.

"BA have some of the best trainers in the industry"

I TOTALLY AGREE - (takes a bow!!!!!)

Emboogie!

There is a list running at the moment which is closed to new entrants. In August the "new" lists will open and you will be able to register for WW (or anywhere else for that matter!) This list should become active in October and then its a waiting game.

If you have not achieved WW by two years from October the list is scrapped and a new one will be opened which again you will put your name on.
Every two years the list is re-opened.

Hope that makes sense!!
To give you an idea, there are transfers taking place from Euro to WW at the moment, they are transferring folk who joined in January 2005 so about two and a half years service.

The list sometimes comes down to 18 months service and sometimes goes as high as 4 years service. Its just the luck of the draw for how many they need.

One thing to bear in mind though is that Eurofleet is the new Worldwide with regards to desirability! For the first time in years (if ever) there are more people waiting to come to Eurofleet LHR from WW than want to go in the opposite direction!

You will of course be able to make your own mind up after a coupole of years flying Euro but about 50% of people being called for transfer to WW at the moment ARE TURNING IT DOWN!!

You can go for Purser after 3 years on Eurofleet and this is a big pay rise which will see you earning more than if you were main-crew on WW and you get to fly in charge!

Good Luck

one thing to bear in mind about lhr ww recruitment, ba are still offerinf this internaly to all scottish ground staff who are out of a job, the date for closing for them in the end of june, so dont expect ba to recruit b4 then as these guys will be in pole position. it depends on how many of them take the job as to how many people they will recruit externaly for. and the amount of ground staff that are taking the job i would doubt even if ba will need to recruit ecternaly for lhr ww.
